Not just a dinner party for the birds

Mr. cooked up a grilling feast for the two of us last night for dinner.  Meanwhile, in the yard, the birds must’ve been busy working up an appetite of their own.  They were mighty hungry and so was I!

Join us (me) for a tour of the party we had going on.

First dinner – (recipe by request if you’re interested – aka, leave a comment and I’ll reply :-))

While the packets were cooking I ran around the yard, with camera in hand, and took photos of flowers.  More to come in another post…in the meantime, check it out my Zinnias are budding!  I’m so happy.  I love Zinnias.

I got back at the table…what did I see?  Steaming hot stuff…

Ah…I dug in

It was a party for my mouth.

It was such a delicious meal.  On a spectacularly beautiful evening for July in Wisconsin. We headed outside to sit on our deck and enjoy the view.

Enter in the other party planning crew.

At one time while we watched the show, (of course, not caught on film), there were 8 Mourning Doves, 6 Yellow Finches, 4 House Finches, 4 of some other kind of bird, maybe a cowbird?, and 3 Amigos – aka, Black Crows).

Mr. Yellow Finch seemed to be the host with the most to observe and make sure things went as planned and no traffic accidents happened.

It was the spot to be.

The Mourning Doves stayed on the ground.  Here’s a close up of one who posed for me that morning.

The party continued and Mr. Finch kept a watchful eye on it to make sure everyone was having a good time.

Then Mr. Crow arrived to rescue the peanuts that had fallen down from the ruckus above.

He stopped and posed as if to say, “Are you ready for this…are you watching me…?”

And then, he took off.

And the party was over…

PS – Happy Friday!  Hope you had a great week and are ready for a party to celebrate the weekend.  What do you have planned?

  1. Beautiful shots. I really need to get a real camera instead of just my phone camera. Aren’t the birds fun. Yummy looking meal. Have a great day.

    1. Thank you, Anita. Yeah, my phone camera wouldn’t cut getting good bird photos! Yes, they are so much fun to watch. Hope you have a great day too!

    1. Thank you, Drew. I hope your weekend finds your book grows and blossoms with lots of thoughts to write about! Happy Writing to you!

  2. Black Birds – opportunists! Great set of photos Shelley! Your dinner looks really delish!

    1. Thank you, John. Yes, those crows are something else! And LOUD! The dinner was delicious, made enough for two meals, too, so yay, no extra cooking for the weekend!

  3. Oooh foil packet meals on the grill! Looks yummy!
Super little story of the bird’s party, and that yellow finch sure looked like he was keeping everything under control.
Happy weekend to your family and to the birds! 🙂

    1. Yes, the foil packets were delicious. It’s a fun and easy meal for any time of the year. Better with fresh corn. Mr. Finch was quite the host to the party. We sure enjoy watching all of their activity. Happy Weekend to you too!!

  4. Great bird pictures. They really seem to like the feeder. Do you always get so many birds visiting?

    1. Thank you! We’ve been feeding them this year and they keep coming back. This year is the first year we’ve had lots of birds in our yard, so that quantity is ‘normal’ now. It has been fun to have so many.

  5. A packet dinner: no pans to wash…bonus! And it looks really good. Definitely a party for your mouth LOL! How you get those birds to pose remains a mystery. Very impressive.

    1. Yes, no dishes to wash just makes the meal that much better. The birds seem to be getting used to me being around. The dove one was taken with my zoom lens and I was in the house, so he/she couldn’t see me. Glad you like the bird photos!

    1. Thank you, Dan. I think they went to the neighbor’s feeders – they have special Thistle feed, which they apparently enjoy as well. 🙂

  6. I love those little goldfinches – so dainty next to the other birds at the Park. I don’t often see them in the neighborhood. The zinnias will be a great splash of color for your yard – I’ve never had zinnias before. Dinner looks very appetizing – lucky you!

    1. Yes, the little finches are hard to spot – the move fast. I love the zinnia’s pops of color. Thank you for reading and sharing your thoughts!

      1. There are beautiful – saw many at the butterfly event – took so many pics that I eventually had to winnow them down as it was just too long, but the zinnias were gorgeous.

  7. wonderful shots, and dinner looks great too . . . . . . I think I spotted the blue but thought tI better check – the plate?!

  8. Your bird photos are so lifelike. You’re a natural with the camera. Your dinner looks like a bit old yum to me. Hope it was tasty.

  9. I realize your post is really about the birds (great photos), but I couldn’t take my eyes off the aluminum-wrapped dinner from the girl. That looks amazing!

    1. Thank you, Mary, I appreciate your encouragement for the bird photos as well as the grill master! 🙂 Dinner was amazing.

  10. Beautiful, lovely, and colorful birds! Enjoyed your slides of them, Shelley.
    Yummy dinner!
