Feisty thoughts from my 900th post

In all honesty and modesty, reaching 900 posts is a toasty moment. It’s a complex thing. And, it’s a travesty too. Instead of feeling accomplished, I feel as though I’ve become a rusty blogger.

How can I feel rusty when I’ve written 900 posts? That’s a lot of words and photos, isn’t it?

All I needed to do is stay focused, right?

It’s true. But, I DO feel rusty. As I sit here, I’m struggling to find words to type. At the same time, I feel feisty enough to keep on trying to put one word at a time onto the page before me.

Perhaps it’s the full moon messing with me? Which I didn’t even try to take a picture of because it’s cloudy and raining in February!

Maybe it’s my messy desk that’s holding me back?

“If a cluttered desk is a sign of a cluttered mind, of what, then, is an empty desk a sign?

-Albert Einstein

I look around at my overhasty sty left behind from tax prep sessions over the last 2 months. The box of papers remains right where I left it. I’ve become quite skilled at stepping over it with ease. Along with box in the corner of donations I put together last year at this time. Are donation sites open yet?

Beyond that pile, I have a vasty stack of books and projects I started last year. No heart to pick them up again to see where to go from here.

Is it okay to wish for concrete black and white steps to find my way out of the dusty messes making up crusty thoughts in my brain?

It’s no wonder that I put that tax prep crap off most of last year, with that big rental project we completed. Thankfully, I didn’t require blepharoplasty after sorting through all of those receipts – it wasn’t a blasty if you catchy my drifty.

Don’t get me started on the shredding pile I’ve yet to dispose of. I sure miss ShredAway days at our bank. Will those ever come back again? Or will I have to sit for hours in front of the shredder to numb my mind some more?

Not a shred of evidence exists in favor of the idea that life is serious.

With seriously chesty moves today I’ll carry the 2020 tax papers box to the basement where it will become frowsty in storage. And, I’ll proclaim to myself,

“I won’t get behind again this year, 2021 will be different!”

Me, myself, and I – every year that I can remember

YES! I shall be more zesty about keeping up with my bookkeeping monthly. I always do first quarter.

I wonder if I have some sort of COVID brain or maybe the past year’s immodesty experience full of research provides hasty or lusty keto friendly food into the only thing I can find to blog about now? Is that all that’s left in my brain? Food for thought…

Seriously though, DANG, the meals are mighty tasty. Check out this week’s featured creation thanks to Mr. via real food bloggers at these links – Italian One Pot Cod Fish Soup served with Keto Copycat Red Lobster Cheddar Bay Biscuits (not pictured for some odd reason – I was too interested in the steamy photo op?!)

Hell no, I didn’t just become a foody blogger who can’t compete with the real ones! LOL – Trusty me, I’ve got vasty thoughts about other things to share with you, but I’m still working through them in my own brain. I hope they don’t turn musty before I trusty myself to share them.

I don’t think I’ve lost the bloodthirsty desire to write? I hope my skills haven’t gone all frosty? Right now, they may be a tad too testy to share?

Instead, I’ll leave you today with a view of the majesty of clouds on a Wisconsin winter’s sky.

As I let my dynasty of thoughts float around in the twisty, gusty, ghosty, and dusty corners of my mind. . .

Will you dear readers grant me, a rusty blogger, amnesty just one more time?

PS – Happy last day of February? Will March come in like a lion or a lamb where you live?

  1. Congratulations on 900 posts, Shelley! This takes plenty of commitment to get there. Raining in February, sounds like weird Michigan weather too. I thought maybe you were considering closing your blog down for a moment. I’m looking forward to post number 901 ❤️

    1. Thanks, John! I appreciate your encouragement to keep blogging. Yes, our weather is very weird this winter. I can’t complain much about not having to shovel (or Mr. can’t!). But it is quite messy for little dog feet that hate to be washed when returning into the house. I’m ready for Spring and Summer, that’s for sure! I get jealous seeing the sunny skies and green Palm Trees you get to see in Vegas.

  2. The need/desire to post to a blog comes and goes. No need to worry about being rusty, it is after all February a rather dreary month for many of us in the northern hemisphere. I’m happy to know that this is your 900th post. That’s a milestone. Congrats & here’s to 900 more!

    1. I’ve always appreciated your blogging wisdom, Ally, thanks for sharing your advice. It’s hard to believe 900 posts – there was a time when I posted every day. That’s even harder to believe than reaching 900 posts!
You’re right about dreary February. I was thankful there was one day of temps in the 40s and sunny – a glimpse of spring gives me hope.
Thanks for cheering me on to writing 900 more! 😉

  3. Looks like it’s coming in like a lamb, but then, you never know. I think they’re anticipating rain tomorrow, but no Godawful thunderstorms, thank heaven.

Congrats on #900! It just takes tenacity…

    1. Yes, March has come in like a lamb here. That makes me kind of dread the end of March. Our snow is slowly melting and the frost is coming up so hopefully if we do get a snowstorm, it’ll melt fast.
Thanks for the congrats – I’m sure you’ve exceeded well over 900 posts! I don’t know how you keep up with all that you do, your efforts are so impressive to me!!

        1. WOW – way to set the bar REALLY high! Yeah, it is hard to find things to do outside of the house these days. Soon that will change!

  4. Your posts and photos are always beautiful.
I have found my time for blogging has dwindled rapidly over the past few months, mainly because work is so busy and my beloved wants me to focus on time with him on my day off. So, I have revisited the archives and I have been republishing some of my older posts (which is confusing some people!)
I read when I can, I want to read posts of other bloggers – but it is hard to keep up with the pace.

    1. Thank you for your feedback and compliments. I can so relate to your thoughts about having a hard time keeping up. I’ve started to give myself permission to just do what I can in the timeslot I’ve chosen. I fall short many a day. Sometimes for a week at a time!! LOL. Thanks again for sharing, I appreciate you taking the time to do so! Happy Blogging to you.

  5. Well here I am Shelley. Looking at wonderful skies and some semblance of order appearing over there. Your 900 made me wonder how many posts I have done. I was surprised that it was 2,908….geeze I must post some rubbish every now and then xx

    1. That’s awesome you’re seeing some semblance of order. WOW – well … I must say, your 2008 posts ahead of me is a stunning way to set the bar a little higher for me. 😉

  6. WOOHOO! 900! That is amazing! Congratulations.

I used to blog 5-6 times a week but this past year it hasn’t happened…not even close. A new year! I will blog more often and not overthink what I am sharing. And like you…I will keep up with my accounting. We have to do monthly accounting for Spanish business tax here but I never seem to get that transferred to the U.S. accounting spreadsheet. Yes, we have the joy of filing in both countries. 2021 will be better.

Again, congrats! I love your blog and your photos. Stay warm. Spring is on the way. Hugs.

    1. Thank you for your feedback and for sharing your thoughts about blogging. And accounting. Oh, my, I can’t imagine having to do accounting for two countries!!! Way to accomplish a huge undertaking like that.
I’m so glad you stopped by to share your thoughts – happy blogging to you too. Yes, Spring is on the way!!
(PS – if you fix your Gravitar link I’d be able to click on it to read your blog…) Hugs to you!

  7. I was tempted to fall for your sleight of words and reassure you … life should be allowed to intervene because a good blog reflects life. If not, it loses freshness … and life may not always seem so interesting … yada yada. But your post is so fresh that it gives all that the lie, Shelley. Because when our existential lfe may not fascinate, our inner life almost always has something to say! Wonder if you know how well-written and engaging your blogs truly are! There’s a reason you have such loyal and happy-to-be followers … and I agree this is one of your best. Go figure!

  8. I’m amazed at those who keep a regular blogging schedule. Anytime I’ve tried doing that, life gets in the way. And, frankly, I don’t think most readers notice. Post when the inspiration hits! Congrats on your 900th post… I have no idea how many I’ve written. Oh, and Feb 28th and March 1st look pretty much the same around here.

    1. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Janis! I’m trying a more carefree approach to blogging. I want to write when the inspiration strikes. In fact, your blog is one that inspired me to do so. I noticed that you write when you’re in the mood to do so. Thank you for inspiring me.
We’re starting to see the brown ground here as the little snow remaining melts – it was in the 50s yesterday – I actually wore my flip-flops outside! 🙂 I’ve got spring fever now!

    1. Thanks, Dan. I don’t see any signs of rust on your blog!!
Oh, dear, sorry to hear of the lion arriving in your part of the states. Hopefully when we’re getting the lion here, you’ll be happily enjoying a calm end to March.

  9. 900 posts is nothing to sneeze at Shelley – you racked ’em up when you wrote every day. You have a lot on your plate so we’ll let you mete ’em out slowly. I like the Einstein quote … food for thought! I have areas of my house that look like that … untouched and unloved and I look at them and just sigh. Time is precious and I hate to squander it on making things tidy.

    1. Thanks, Linda. Yeah, I did rack the posts up when I wrote every day. I still can’t believe I did that and kept up with it. It was easier to whip out a post back then though. Thus the rusty feelings.
Glad you enjoyed the quote. You’re right – time is precious and there are better things to do than dust and make things tidy. 😉

      1. I wondered how you did it too Shelley! I cut myself to only two posts a week as of January 1st … one is a Wordless Wednesday but the other post is longer and usually picture laden. That is fine for now for the remainder of my working years. 🙂 Dust if you must, otherwise shut your eyes!!

        1. Are you enjoying the two posts a week better than more often? The weather is turning to Spring, so you’ll be out and about and having fun finding more to write about! It’s a blogging conundrum. 😉

          1. I am Shelley – but beginning of the week, when I do the long post, I find myself swamped a few days at the beginning of the week because I usually get caught up (or close to it) on Reader over the weekend. So more comments and like tonight, I doubt I will go to Reader. I will probably keep this schedule, straying a little for holidays or special events until I retire. Like you, I wonder how I did it before when I was posting three to four posts a week. You were doing everyday! I went on a lot of walks in the Fall, sometimes three parks a day so I knew I would be going to two posts a week and would not run out of fodder for posts. Since I got to the Park after the two bigger snowfalls and got lots of photos, I probably have photos to go thru mid-April. Then the wonderful Springtime scenes that will await you/me!

          2. We’re both finding our way to a pace that works best for our schedules. Thanks for faithfulness and encouragement, you’ve got a heart of gold and I’m so thankful our paths crossed here in the blogosphere!

          3. Yes, as long as we work and find a way to find some leisure time to fit into our day, all is right with the world … as well as can be in this pandemic. Thank you for the nice words and thoughts Shelley … I am glad our paths crossed here as well. We can thank Laurie (Meditations in Motion) for that – she pointed me in your direction!

  10. This year has been hard on all of us. Challenges we thought we would never have and situations that just make us stare at them like they have no sense. I think if you just focus on the beauty inside the vase, all the rest will eventually float to the top and move on down river. have a safe and blessed day tomorrow.

    1. Yes, indeed, it has been a challenging year for all of us. I think of you often and say to myself, “Anita spreads hope, do that instead of focusing on the frustrating situations!” Thanks for sharing your words of wisdom and hope, Anita!

  11. Congratulations! It’s your diamond anniversary x9 ….or something like that. My best bit is the quote about not a shred of evidence that life is serious

  12. Majesty, indeed! Your sky and your talent–you definitely are a wordsmith! But I do know something about blogging lags. And I think that’s OK! 900 posts is a wonderful accomplishment. Just look at all these comments. A blogging “fam” to be proud of! And celebrating with soup seems perfect–yum!

    1. Aw, thanks, Rebecca – your compliments make me blush. I do love my blogging “fam”, thinking of them brings me back here to my writing post time and time again. Thank you for being here to share the journey! xx
