30 Day Blogging Challenge – How to find your writing style

Ah, it’s back to school time.  September is a perfect month to reflect on the summer, get ready for the fall, and chill while the kids are busy doing the hard work of learning about themselves and all that important stuff they learn in school.

The world seems to get back to learning mode when the kids go back to school.  Watch out folks, kids grow up so fast…and take off on their own.  They don’t teach us that in school, you simply learn about it as you grow older and wiser, and then one day you’re an empty nester.

I don’t have the back to school days anymore now that we’re empty nesters.  I kind of miss the first day of school pictures.

I miss those days because I enjoyed seeing the kids come home from school each day, all happy and full of smiles about what they learned.  It was fun to listen to them as they’d tell me about their day.

Something in me, even after all the years (okay…decades) of being out of school, still wants to learn and continue growing like all those students are doing so now that they are back in school.

Do you ever feel that way too?

Whatever it is we call that feeling of being officially out of the back-to-school zone – something about it causes us to stop our daily learning mode.  I think that is sad for us as adults.

We leave the hard work of learning for our kids, don’t we?

Should we?  Should we stop learning?  NO!

I’m one of those people who loves to keep learning, and when I’m feeling lost or not challenged, I get bored.  And I want to get something started to learn more about myself and why I do the things I do.  That is one of the reasons why I started my blog.

But blogging and learning about blogging can be lonely.  I miss having fellow students or teachers now that I’m at the post-school stage in life.  It’s not like I have a teacher there every day to guide me.  Do you ever feel that too?  I’m cheap too, I can’t afford formal lessons in it.

So I want to invite friends to join me in the self-discovery process of blogging.  Then it’s more like a learning party!  I love to hear words of wisdom as I discover new things about others and myself.

Since I’m a part-time, learning-as-I-go-blogger, I’m not able to devote too much time, so it can’t be too big of a party, with too much pressure, because, then it becomes WORK – I don’t need more work, and neither do you!

Instead, how about a fun challenge to get to know each other and ourselves in this blogging world?

30DayFindYourWritingStyleBloggingChallenge

What are the rules?  None really!  Feel free to join or use the challenge as much as you’d like.  It can even just be a journal you keep on your own.  If you’d like to share your blog post in my comments or (how to WordPress pingback) link back to this post so I can check out your blog and learn from you – I’d love it, but again, no pressure – do so at your leisure!!

You can even just do your normal blogging routine and answer a question from the list above at the bottom of your post, and share your link in my comments so I can read how you answered the question!

Or if you’d rather not formally join the challenge, and just want to share your thoughts or words of wisdom with me, I’m going to use the questions above as a question at the bottom of my post for the day – feel free to just answer the question in my comments each day!

Easy, right?

There’s no pressure, join if you want to, in any order, and tag your post #MyBlogMyWritingStyle!  Use the daily word prompt or a daily question – if you’re a writing only blogger, use one or both.

Or if you’re like me a combo writing photography blogger – use photos or words or both for the prompts.  If you’re up for even greater challenge tie all the pieces together with all the other prompts you use for blog writing and do like I did today, Word of the Day Prompt – Leisure.   Lens-Artist-Photo-Challenge – Action.

Most of all, be creative and have FUN – enjoy 30 days to discover your blog writing style!

PS – #MyBlogMyWritingStyle – Day 1 – What do you do when you feel lost in blogging?  See above…I start a challenge and invite people to join me!

  1. Great idea! Oh, and look into colleges that offer free classes where you just sit in for lectures but are not graded/credited. I definitely want to do it when I’m older….I would have been a professional college student if I could make money at it & not, instead, go into more debt! Happy writing, Shelley✍️!

    1. Thank you! That’s a great suggestion, too! Yes, I’d do the same – just go for the fun of learning! Thank you, enjoy your harvesting and selling of your herbs!

  2. Fabulous idea – maybe I can learn what in the world I am doing. Still have not figured out how to pingback. I hit the link and it sent my down an Alice in Wonderland rabbit hole. So I am in. If I can figure out how!

    1. Great, happy to have you join in! No worries, I’ll help you figure it out (as much as I’m able). Yes, links are like that, they take you on unplanned adventures!

    1. Excellent, Anita – you posted two in one, two link backs to previous posts, and two super adorable dogs to boot!! Love it, great job!!! xx

  3. Great idea, Shelley and I love your action shot of the kids bike riding. It is sad when the kids leave home, isn’t it? Then you have some consolation that it’s your “job” as a parent to prepare them to be independent. When you succeed, they leave!! You will find your way, I promise, after they leave home. The wonderful part is watching them grow and find their place in the world. For us, it’s often rediscovering our purpose and passion.

    1. Thank you, Patti! Yes, it’s a sad day when they leave home, but you’re right, it was our job to get them to the point of being independent and able to venture off on their own. The rewards of watching them succeed in the world of adulting are worth it. I’m on the rediscovering mode now – by the way, I love how you put it that way, thank you for sharing your thoughts!

    1. Hmm…I’m not sure what you mean? When I visited your post for the day, it looks correct on your blog? The pingback to me will be the full description so I can approve it? Maybe that is it? Maybe someone wiser than me will read this and set us both straight?? PS- Your post was wonderful and I’m so happy to see you were able to get out and about and that your foot is healing well! xx

    1. Excellent surprise post. I love the thimble theme and the surprises you’ve found since you started blogging in July of this year! You’re rocking the learning curve Anita!!
