Winters’ Whispering Winds

You’ve heard of them, right?  The 3 big W’s.  Winters’ – Whispering – Winds.  Don’t they create the perfect setting for romance?

Um…maybe…?

After 30-40 mph winds, our backyard has taken on a white sand dune-like appearance – where a knight could ride across it with an Arabian horse and meet up with his mistress.  Or maybe a white or blue ocean, depending upon when you look at it?

I like the ocean thought better than sand dunes.  I’m craving some warmth of the see the sea (me) time, that’s for sure.  Now, that’s what I call romantic.

But a cozy night looking at the blue snow is sort of like the ocean we’ll be seeing glimpses of soon and kind of romantic when one is in the mood for such things.

In the pre-trip mode, I and the Mr. are trying to admire drifts floating our way.  The formations are incredibly fascinating to us when we pause to notice what’s right before our eyes.

Each subtle layer built curve by curve, wave by wave, or gust of lust for creating some kind of pile of white crap on the other side of the fence might be more like it?  Yikes…I might need more Vitamin D?

Yeah, that’s it?  Anyhoo, the snow is brought to the forefront of our thoughts by each gusty thrust that tossed it across the fields into our yard – apparently, said space was ready, willing and able to catch any and all kinds of drifts.

I watched it in action from the warmth of my window.  The teasing of the snow as it danced across the field.

It was fierce and feisty and ready to play.

The blur effect of the snow moving across the field during the strong winds grabbed my attention and a blanket to cuddle up with, too.  Not quite a bikini wearing moment – nope not at all!  It’s all about the cover-up, that’s for sure.

Ol’ man winters’ efforts paid off in creations of huge wave-like drifts in our yard.

And on our deck – neither Mr. or I can remember ever seeing a pile this high on our deck in all of our years here together.  No grilling on the outside spaces until some of the snow melts, that’s for sure.

By day it is bright with all the white.  The warmth of the sun’s glow bouncing off of the snow does make me want to grab sunglasses.

By night, the blue-tinted hues are romantic.  They make me want to curl up close with Mr. while we sip a cup of warm tea together.

Well…um, wait for a second…hold your horses’ folks…not so fast…

That’s where romantics ended due to remnants of the snow-blower that hit the road multiple trips in a row.  It was an exhausting and bone-chilling day for Mr.  He was accompanied by a Whopping 6 below Whip your ass kind of Wind.

The least I could do (or did) was to warm his still cold hands.  Every bone in his body was aching from the hours leading up to our exchange after dinner.  I don’t blame him for needing some help to recover from all the action.  After 4 hours of plowing snow and shoveling our entryway, and Copper’s poop zone, Mr. most definitely deserved to cuddle up with something(one) warm and get a peaceful nights’ rest.

Thank goodness he found our driveway and our mailbox…just in time for more snow today and tonight…………………………..

  1. Winter gives us so many opportunities for photos we (hope to) never see again. Cold days spent clearing snow, know that more is coming, or that the wrong wind will put it all back – are – not – fun. Hopefully, it will all make the beach feel even better.

    1. LOL – you’ve got that right. And with all my swimsuit shopping for the trip, I’ve been bombarded with Facebook ads like you described in your blog! The beach is going to be such a welcome site!!! I do think the trip is keeping us going through this long winter!

  2. I think they are all great. You know I love snow but I am saying that from the perspective of an unusual warm UK February. We had temperatures around 20C here. Can you believe that? That’s normal in May! Whoever said there is bad weather in good old Britain???? 🙋🐝

  3. That’s a ridiculous amount of snow. All your photos are beautiful, but if I had to choose…I’d pick the bright day ones. I like the contrast with the blue sky. Stay warm!

  4. The snow drifts and sand dune-like appearance just amaze me Shelley. It is a tough call, but I think I like the bluish-tint snow better, but they are all incredible shots of the snow. I have found it interesting watching the snow piling up on top of the table/chairs on the deck.

    1. Thank you for your vote! Yes, it has been interesting watching it grow. Yesterday, after raking off one of our rentals’ roof, Mr. looked out at the deck and said he better shovel it off soon…then he sighed…poor guy. He’s said at least he’s keeping in shape with all the snow removal.

      1. Mr. doesn’t need to do any squats or any stretching exercises. I swear we got 2 inches of snow, but they said 1.2 inches (no way) … I went ahead and shoveled as I figured the guy would not show up and I wanted the driveway clear. I actually don’t mind shoveling snow except for when the plow comes and it is hard impacted snow and heavy to shovel. I’ve become good at pushing snow with one arm. 🙂

        1. Mr. mentioned every hour on the hour yesterday that he was looking forward to not having to shovel today. How is your arm by the way? Getting better by resting it, I hope?!?

          1. He’s happy for that I’m sure and last night I noticed the official total in Wyandotte was 1.9 – it really hasn’t snowed much here this Winter … more about the icy conditions … snow would not stop me as much as ice as to walking. My arm is about the same Shelley – thank you for asking. I still believe it is my posture at the table while on the computer. I have been reading a lot about ergonomics and bending over and neck and shoulder muscles being abused as a result of this action – more so for kids who are hunched over their phones long periods of time. Wish I could enlighten them this could happen.

          2. Ice is nasty. We’ve got both. Spring will appear eventually and then we both can get outside for the right kind of vitamin d exposure! I’m glad your shoulder isn’t worse. Sorry it isn’t much better though. Yes, our position doesn’t help. I think of all those kids too, they’ll regret their poor posture some day. Write a blog post about it, I’m sure people would be interested in it!

          3. I haven’t mentioned my shoulder yet in my blog and last year I whined a lot about how my neighbor and I had a deal and I shoveled for both of us and he cut the lawn for both of us – as you know, that fell through. I’d be shoveling and see him and his fat kid looking out the window at me – grrrr. He can’t even be bothered to clear what ended up being 1.9 inches of snow yesterday. That is “kid stuff” snow … here is some serious snow in Canada and I told Norm I was passing it along to Shelley who has similar snow is Wisconsin. You’ll have to show Mr. and Copper: https://wordpress.com/read/feeds/20603240/posts/2189257517

          4. He sure can – his yard and drifts looked like yours. Thanks, me too Shelley. The sun is shining brightly now – I’m looking longingly at it. 🙂

          5. Congratulations on a sunny day!! Hope you had many chances to enjoy it! Snow is on it’s way here to welcome March! 🙁

          6. Unbelievable as to your snow – here I am late again, but was late posting. I know there is no walk for me as we’re getting snow tomorrow, not as horrid as your amount. They said we had 7 inches of snow in February – that is small change, but our ice storms (5) is what prevailed this past month. The sunny day was beautiful – I walked and enjoyed it very much – hated to come home in fact!

          7. Yes, we got 6″ of lovely white fluffy sparkly…no matter how nice I describe it – snow overnight. What’s keeping me going is the trip coming up – I shall soak up lots of sun, hopefully enough to get me to spring! I’m glad to hear you enjoyed your walk outside.

          8. Six more inches – so tedious after what you’ve been through this Winter. Our snow never arrived – it irks me because four different weathermen, on 2 radio stations, TV station on Facebook and Accuweather. Still waiting on the snow. I’d have taken a little jaunt in the car and taken some photos. I have been working on trying to clean up my computer – I’ve not stopped to archive photos and blog posts and sort out some things and when we get our new computer system, I’ll put some of my blog docs and photos over there on the new Win10 laptop. I am glad to step away from this project.

          9. Yeah, the snow, thankfully was light and fluffy, so it blew easily and it kinda just melted in the sun yesterday. It is getting messy in parking lots though. I ventured out yesterday to the store and it was like every other person had the same idea. Yikes!

          10. I was going to go this morning – I still didn’t need much for me and I decided to go for a drive with the car. My last car got electrical issues since I didn’t drive it enough, so I went there, walked, took a lot of pics, wrote a long blog and here we are, trying to catch up on comments after midnight. I won’t get to Reader til tonight now … we got snow this afternoon – slick and lots of accidents. Glad I got home on time.

    1. Jealous, right? I’ve been trying to catch photos of the bunnies (that I know you like seeing) but they keep hiding under cover wondering what happened to the grass!
