When memories of dewdrops freeze

Here’s the deal.  There’s no mist happening in our neck of the woods today.

What is Frank thinking, wanting us all to share misty thoughts?  Well…I’ve got some news for him.  I’m sending this here letter to shed some white light on what’s happening across the ocean blue from where he lives.

Don’t sigh, he asked for it, right? 😉

Dearest Frank (and all your contributors to this week’s prompt),

I hope the weather finds you and your family well and that you all are enjoying the sights of your neck of the woods.

As for us, we’re in a spot where h*ll could easily freeze over.

And our poor little pup wanders around the kitchen floor, waiting and wanting to be held to stay warm each time he has to go out in it.  (No pictures, he moves so fast now that his tootsies freeze and slip on ice).

The cats lay above watching him dance around.  He’s entertaining I guess.  Kind of like Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire in…

It’s quite the sight to see.

Seriously.

The pup knows what I’m talking about when it comes to winter chills.  Winter brings upon blues of sorts.

And wild animals who resort to eating what’s fallen onto the ground for them to munch on.

See the snow on the birdfeeder post, then it falls and the deer gets ready to bolt!

I think our pup’s even getting a bit misty-eyed.  The shocking blast of cold on his face makes them water.  Or maybe he’s missing nicer weather?

He remembers wandering about in a misty morning of late fall –

Where dewdrops dangled on leaves, branches, and grass,

and spider webs hung there too.  It was dreamy and mysterious.

Where what lurked in the woods stayed clear of our yard during daylight, as far as his little eyes could see.

But his nose always knows who has been here or not.  He also knows that once the ground freezes.  The views change.

Baby, when it’s cold outside, and it precipitates it ain’t a hot steamy mist we see.

Sigh…

All we can do now is wait this winter out and…

Until the next challenge – do well and enjoy life and all the contributions to your prompt this week.

PS – What gets you all misty-eyed at this time of year?  Is it the weather?  Is it missing someone dear?  Or maybe you’re all happy and ready to hit the skis or slopes or ice-fish?  Yeah, like in the movie Titanic, it’s real, us Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin folk ice fish once the lake freezes over.

  1. Great photos, Shelley. We have plenty of mist. It’s going to be 55 today. It rained yesterday and most of our snow has turned to mist and muuuussshh. Our pup isn’t happy either. I hope you get a break from the near-zero outdoor reading. Hug the pup.

    1. Thank you, Dan! 55 sounds much better than -17 below that we woke up to today! I bet Maddie isn’t tickled about the muuusssh! Copper is very unhappy about the below zero temps. He’s curled up in his ortho-bed refusing to move. 😉

        1. Yep – sigh! Will do, neither one of us wants to go out in it today. -30 below feels like wind chills doesn’t sound appealing at all!

  2. Wonderful photos Shelley, and it’s sooo cold there! I saw this arctic blast heading your way on TWC yesterday. 4 degrees – wow. 🥶

    1. Thanks, John. It’s even colder today. Sigh. My oldest is in Vegas this week for work – she’s sent pictures, it sure looks warmer there than it is here!

  3. Oh, Shelley, PLEASE do not send your winter weather this way. It is raining here in my neck of the woods today, but temperatures are supposed to plummet and the “S-word” is in the forecast. My poor dog Benji just looks at me with sad eyes when I open the door for him to go out. I am heartless and scoot him outside so he can go pee in the rain!

    1. If I could stop the ‘s’ word weather, and bitter cold, I would! I hope it doesn’t hit your area and that Benji gets relief without too much hassle. Copper knows how he feels to be thrusted out into the elements. Poor pups! Stay warm!!

  4. Summer seems so fleeting when Winter begins before the calendar date and lingers past the Spring calendar date. Sigh. The landscape is boring day after day isn’t? At least it is cozy and full of Christmas ambiance inside, even though you sure want to put an asterisk after “Let it Snow” on this snowman decor.

    1. Yes, it does, I feel like we missed it for some reason! We heard recently on our local news station that we’ve surpased 101.5″ of snow in 2019. Yeah…the need for an asterisk after Let it Snow is an understatement!

      1. We Michiganians feel cheated, but you have it much worse than us – 101.5 inches of snow is just incredible Shelley! They say January and February will be very snowy here in Michigan. One of the meteorologists I follow mentioned the other day that here in the Detroit area, we did not have one day with sunshine in the month of November. He said that was a first; even other major Michigan cities had a few sunny days. I’m going to mention it in an upcoming post and he said most of December has been sun free as well.

        1. Yeah, we’ve had snow. We’ve had sunny days though – so I guess I should be grateful for those. Are you taking Vitamin D?

          1. Not as a separate supplement, just in a multiple vitamin, but I take cod liver oil capsules all year around (Carlson – Cod Liver Oil, 460 mg Omega-3s) and they are a good source of Vitamin D. We did not have much sun this Summer, and I go walking in the morning and pretty much try to avoid the sun as I don’t wear sunscreen. I got burned twice this Summer as I thought it was too cloudy to have any rays coming through that thick cloud cover.

  5. And I was hoping to wake up to some deep city snow so I could legitimately cancel my doc app’t … “Gee, I’m sorry, but at my age and with my legs I just don’t dare …” (and meanwhile, secretly, I take the snow as a challenge that I plan to be up to until I’m 90!).

But when I see your photos, I can imagine how you and your dog feels … the cat looks like it’s saying: I can stay happy on this new counter for as long as I have to!

    1. You’re the first person I’ve heard this season who was wishing for a dumping of snow. I hope your doctor appointment went well, since you had to go!
Yes, Copper dreads this weather. And Dessy, well, she’ll stay planted long enough to get noticed or moved or provided a handout of her favorite treats. 🙂

  6. Great photos, Shelley! We’ve got weird weather popping up and down the thermostat but I can’t fathom what you’ve got going on there. Holy moly!!

    1. Thank you, Laura. Speaking of fathom what I’m going through – I can add another layer of clothes – unlike you…and all that you’re keeping track of. Girl – I wanna take a nap just reading it! I’m sending a letter to Santa to send you a Spa day! 😉

  7. What an awesome and creative post! Wish I could send a little sunny warmth your way from the desert southwest 🌵 Your post is great, and, well, I particularly love the kitty on the kitchen counter 💗😊 Here’s hoping for a magical winter and an early warm and beautiful spring! Thanks for the beautiful photos!

    1. Aw, thank you, Lisa. I’m glad you enjoyed it. The snow is definitely not as warm as a spot on a beach. Yes, the kitty on the counter is quite the sight. She’s proud of herself. Thanks for stopping by, I so appreciate hearing from you. Enjoy those cute Beanie Babies too!!
