The day after my birthday dinner

It happens every year – my birthday, that is.  (Oy…we’re on Day 3 or 4 of mentioning it, I’m suspiciously sounding like a narcissist…Yikes!)

It’s my blog, I can write whatever I want.  So there.  And yes, it was my birthday yesterday.

Anyhoo…after a grueling day of work, I celebrated my birthday with Mr. who cooked me a special meal.

Mr.:  It’s not really special.  I cook for you every day.

Me:  Yeah, I know, but it does look delicious and I appreciate you standing out in the cold to grill it.

He’s right, he does cook every day so why would things be any different on my birthday?

It’s just another day every once a year in November.

It was a delicious meal and healthy, too.  Good sources of fiber and vitamins, low-fat (only a 1/2 pat of butter on the sweet potato) and I only ate 1/2 of the steak.  And I was a good girl, I had water as a chaser to the glass of wine.

I’m a spoiled-rotten brat, yeah, I know I am.  After asking me where I kept the birthday candles, Mr. even surprised me with a single serving cake.

Me:  Aw, that’s so cute, just a single piece of cake.

Mr:  Yeah, I didn’t want to have to bake one, and cook dinner.  Besides, it was a deal at Wal-Mart.  It’s the only thing I could find to buy you.

Me:  It tastes like a deal, the frosting is…um, weird tasting.  But it is really cute…thanks honey, you’re so sweet.

Mr:  It’s the thought that counts.  I like it…

Me:  You can have it.  I’m full, the dinner was really good, plus I need to save room for my Tostitos chasers…

Mr:  Yeah, that’s my girl, at least you’ve gotten better at rationing them to a serving size.

I shared a photo of the cake on Instagram – I spaced out taking a photo with my big camera before we dug into it.  No, that’s not right…I was blowing out the candle, yeah, that’s it!  I was busy being the birthday girl instead of the photographer, or it may have been my second glass of wine…(shh…I know…I’m only supposed to have 1 according to the recommendations for heart-healthy lifestyles)

Cut me some slack – it was my birthday.  I can splurge once a year.  Red wine has health benefits don’t cha know?

Mr.:  So, I didn’t buy you anything for your birthday.

Me:  That’s a good thing – You remembered that I bought enough for myself while shopping on Black Friday!  Plus I received out of nowhere, from some charity I’ve never heard of, two cute free pens in the mail.  And Kris gave me those cute little dogs to hang on the wine glasses.  So, yeah…I’m good with gifts, I didn’t need anything more.

Mr.:  Yeah, so I saw…by the way since you mentioned gifts, are you going to finish wrapping the stuff on the table before Christmas?

Me:  Yeah…It’s on my list for this weekend. December 1st sounds like a good day to do that, and decorating, right?

Mr:  Um, yeah, thanks for planning my weekend…

And there you have it.  It’s the day after my birthday dinner.

Crap, you know what that means?  Tomorrow is December…!

One more day of November left – aka, the day after my celebratory day – and the world didn’t stop.  It’s just another day I can add to the checked off the to-do-been-there-done-that list.

And tomorrow it will be my 3rd day of being 54 and all I’ve got to show for it is that I’m 54 and full of shit.  I should’ve ordered myself a cup like this for my birthday…

Boom, there you have it.  I have to say it one more (two more) times.  Shit…it is the end of November.

It’s November 30th!

Jeez…why am I yelling?  Sorry, it was just a loud sigh.  I had to let out some hot air!  I’m freaking out here…where the hell did the year go?

Tomorrow there will only be 31 days left of 2018.

Man o’ man…I better figure out that damn bullet journal one of these days, I’m losing track of stuff and days way too fast at my age.  By the way, uh, yeah, I sorta fell off the Bujo wagon (too).  More to come on that…

Post Inspiration:  The end of the year is coming…

PS – What is your best trick for staying true to your goals or your bullet journal or your diet!?  It’s okay to toss them all out on your birthday, right?

  1. Belated happy birthday! Beat you by a couple of days (and several years). DinDin looks yummy. Do carry your ceebration right on through the weekend 💃🏽🎉🍾🎉💃🏽

  2. I missed your post yesterday but luckily I was on time greeting you in Facebook. Yay! I’m glad you had good food. 😉

  3. Happy Birthday Shelley. And here’s yet another thing we have in common. My birthday was 3 days ago and my hubby made me a great dinner. His specialty is chicken florentine (sauteed chicken cutlet over jasmine rice with capers and steamed spinach)….this is the signature dish hubby was eating when we first met 36 years ago. Le Sigh!) I finished off a bottle of Italian prosecco that was started at Sunday brunch. My eldest daughter and her hubby and my granddaughter were here over the weekend and they bought me a superb (out of this world, really) ice creme cake with tons of crunchies!!!
Almost best birthday ever. But we keep getting closer and closer every year.
    LOL

    1. Aw – YAY – Happy Birthday to you too! You’re lucky in the chef and family department too. Glad you enjoyed your celebrations 🙂

  4. It is very OK to let them all go in the trash on your birthday. And holidays too. Meal look fab. Glad you have such a loving Mr who cooks for you. A rarity. Look at it this way, you have 364 days before you have to think about this again. Onward to Christmas.

  5. Dinner looks very good – you ate all your veggies and left half your steak … you get a thumb’s up for that. I say I’ll be better food wise every Sunday and ever first day of a new month and, of course, for a new year. 🙂

  6. Happy birthday, Shelley! That dinner looked yummy! My birthday is 12/4, always between Thanksgiving and Christmas like yours. And I would have eaten all the steak but saved room for lots o’ dessert!🎂

    1. Thank you, Terri! That’s my dad’s birthday, 12/4, too. Happy Birthday early. Hope you have a wonderful one and that you enjoy your travels. Hope you find some steak and dessert for your birthday dinner!
