How I was adopted by a pinup model

While the rest of the world debates the status of being fully-you-know-what, I’ve experienced first-hand a twist to being fully something in our little old circle of life.

Not every person can say that this has happened to them. Even Mr. And, frankly, I feel quite blessed indeed.

This past week I became fully adopted by a pin-up model named Dessy. Her presence is heart-warming.

All it took was for her to do a spin or two or maybe three before she comfortably landed in the spot formerly claimed by my little pup, Copper. Who, as you all know, had made me a pin-up model for himself for 16.5 years of adoration before peacefully handing off the role of faithful companion to our beloved Dessy.

I was surprised at how quickly she warmed up to hanging out with me. She was a tad nervous at first. Then she settled in, and snored, so I knew the transition to her role has become something we’ll see happen again and again and again. Perhaps it’s more about me being the poster child for food sources, but it’s different nowadays.

She’s become a role model for me to embrace the happy memories and to consider cleaning up the pet fur still lingering in the room. Napping always comes first, though. Cats know best about that kind of stuff.

Dessy has been by my side while I work at my computer. She had been making the rounds to check in on Copper and has determined he is not returning. At first, I thought it was to comfort me or check in on me. I do believe there’s some truth to that, in my humble opinion, of course. On the other hand, Dessy is likely opining her way to ensure food sources aren’t going to continue to be so off schedule from what they were a couple of weeks ago.

We’re into shaking things up for a bit now. As in grabbing a can and spraying the wasps’ nests that had been quite busy when we weren’t looking.

And we’re noticing other small critters in the yard that are becoming braver now that the scents of a dog have dissipated. The Thirteen Stripped Ground Squirrels are busy stuffing their cheeky cheeks.

Mr. thinks this one is pregnant…she waddles when she runs.

I even grabbed my camera and tried taking a few photos of other seasonal objects outside. Not quite Pinterest status, but eh, they’re okay, nonetheless. And I was pleasantly surprised to see a few late-blooming daisies.

When I got up this morning, I looked out at the front window and saw the sliver of a moon. On the colorful sky. Adorned in my robe and slippers, I didn’t hesitate to embrace the moment. I grabbed my camera and stepped out on the front doorstep to attempt to capture what I saw. It was clearly a pinhead of the moon move. The neighbors were out on their porch. Hopefully, they weren’t looking to see a real pin-up gal posing on our front doorstep.

For those who chuckled when they read the last post that I’d left dog drool on the windows, don’t worry I’ll clean the windows today. It’s time to look up.

When you feel me in your heart, just look up. I will be right there.

It looks like a beautiful fall day ahead. At least here it is. I’ve heard other areas of the world are experiencing not-so-nice weather. I hope you’re safe wherever you are.

So there you have it, my moments of reflection for the week devoted to recognizing Dessy, our pin-up model.

Post Inspiration – Linda G. Hill’s Stream of Consciousness Saturday – Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “pin.” Use it as a noun, use it as a verb, use it any way you’d like. Have fun!

PS – Fall weather has arrived here in Wisconsin – cooler nights, ragweed and goldenrod season, and the trees are starting to change colors. Are you ready for the change in seasons where you live? Do you have fun plans for the rest of the weekend? Happy Labor Day to my US friends – my prayers go out to the job-seekers, may they get back to work soon!

  1. You’ve taken so many great photos, Shelley. The little squirrel is so cute! The set with the daisy has that photo with what looks like morning dew on the weeds, so pretty!

Those darn wasps, they can build a nest so fast it’s amazing. I hope you guys got that thing gone, the stuff left on the aluminum can be difficult to remove too.

And how sweet that Dessy is stepping up like she is. Have a dandy Sunday and upcoming week!

    1. Thank you, John. Yes – you recognized the dew on the weeds. The pretty pink tumbleweeds are hard to catch on film, but are so darn pretty. My friend thought it was frost – yikes – I’m not ready for frost. Except it did get down into the high 40s last night!
Yes, those wasps are nasty. We haven’t knocked it down yet, as we read that if you leave the old nest there they won’t rebuild. But didn’t consider the aluminum factor…
Yes, Dessy is stepping up. She’s such a sweet cat, hard to hold, but so sweet as a companion.
I hope you’re having a great week too – it’s nice to have another day off in the week.

      1. I guess you can remove the nest when the night temp gets around 32, they will have died off by then. High 40s? Brrr! It can get to 32 here once in a while but it doesn’t last. This is the High Desert, my house is at 2800 feet ASL.

        1. We need to find a bigger ladder…neither one of us likes heights. Yes, it’s been colder, but we did have a high in the 80s this week too. Wow – you’re in the High Desert – I’ve never been there before, I bet it’s a neat place to visit/live!

          1. I like it up here! The temperature swing from summer to winter is large. I’ve seen 32F a few times but that’s not common. Yet the summer heat last summer and this summer hit 115F !!!

  2. What is this “cooler weather” you speak of in September? Being a Floridian, we are in the hottest part of the summer and I can only dream of cooler weather (which is probably still warm compared to what you’d consider to be cool).

    Great photos!

    1. Hi Lisa, thanks for the photo kudos! My friends are down in Florida right now and they say it’s HOT – their beach photos look that way for sure! Last night it got down to the high 40s and yesterday was mid-70s with a cooler breeze. Out of the wind it felt like the 80s, but in the breeze a nice light jacket wasn’t out of the question. We went raspberry picking late morning, they produce berries until the first frost. September here can have extreme temps variations. It’s kind of nice, the cooler days bring out the desire to put on jeans and a sweatshirt. 😉

    1. Thanks, Dan. Your compassionate post brought me back to reality. Believe it or not, I had shut off the news for the past few week. 🙁

    1. I think you’re right, Brian! We discussed why we even need a fence, but it will keep the deer from wandering up on to the deck. That’s probably a good thing! Yes, the little squirrels are fun to watch.

  3. Cooler weather already is not good – next you’ll be writing about snow. Dessy has seized the opportunity to be your new companion pet … good insight on Dessy’s part . I’m sure the kitties miss Copper just like you do. The fat squirrel and flowers made me smile … you captured raindrops on the daisy perfectly Shelley.

    1. Yes, and the trees turning already means they’re preparing for winter. The other squirrels in the neighborhood are scrambling to pick up all the acorns. The deer are eating them too. They know winter is near.
Thanks, dew drops in the morning remain one of my favorite topics to photograph.

  4. I noticed on the calendar today that Fall arrives in 2 weeks. Hard to believe, but I’m ready for the change. So interesting that Dessy has stepped in for Copper. I’m happy for you, And – as always…great photos. 🙂

    1. Fall is so close now. I’m adjusting to being ready for it. Slowly. I do love the fall colors. Yes, both Dessy and Tizzie have adopted me. They are slowly adjusting to the changes. Thank you – glad you enjoyed the photos too!

    1. I forget that not every state is in cool fall mode. I hope you’re staying cool however you can! Don’t wear jeans yet either! lol!
