How dust bunnies grow

It’s been one heck of a busy morning week month year lifetime of dust bunny growth in our house since our little birds flew the empty nest I can’t remember when.

I frankly don’t give a f*** about dust on my books…

IMG_7143csskrupa3

or nose prints on the windows…

IMG_7118csskrupa3

Until I start to sneeze or we have an appraiser coming to take photos for a loan refinance.  And I realize, from a dog’s view…

IMG_7133csskrupa3

Way down low…when I wasn’t looking, the dust bunnies sure did grow.

Enough time has lapsed it’s time to paint the ceiling stains from the leaky roof…I dunno when?  Oh, yeah, it was March of this year.  At least it wasn’t last year.

Someone needs to dare and take the lead and get sh*t done.

IMG_7138csskrupa3

Ah, the joys of not caring quite so much about the messes we have left unattended since last night’s dinner.

IMG_7114csskrupa3

Now it’s just us and the pets and the birds.  They might be concerned by our delay, don’t worry we’ll take care of it today.

IMG_7115csskrupa3

And then there are the plants that leave the dust and tiny buds for us to clean up too.

IMG_7155csskrupa3

We’re clean, not dirty.  Mostly.  Not, nope – not every spot is tidy.  I do confess.

Sigh.  But at least we’re the boss of the mess.

IMG_7112csskrupa3

We can decide when, we can decide who, and how it will be cleaned.  Or not.

We can always count on the fact that we will have unfinished projects and piles to address, and glass shelves to dust, and plants to water, and things to distract us from doing anything other than what really matters.

IMG_7135csskrupa3sq

It just sucks when removing the dust consumes my time when all I’d rather do is write…

IMG_7134csskrupa3

and take photos…

IMG_7157csskrupa3

Of the tiny details in life that make me notice how much it is that I don’t normally see with my naked eye.

But not today…off I go…to clean…or ride off into the sunset on a mop with attitude.

PS – How about you, are you a dust bunny removal expert or do you let them grow so you can see them better first?  Happy Saturday – if you’re bored and looking for something to do, and you’re handy with a mop or dust cloth……………….

  1. I’m laughing along with this story today, Shelley – let’s just leave it at that. Dust on books??? I’m OK with that.

    1. LOL – glad you shared a laugh with me today! So, yeah, your post is hoot today (as always)! 🙂 Cheers to Saturday!

  2. Oh, lordy, I am with you. If only dog hair had a market, I’d be rich. Once the dust/fur bunnies are noticeable, it’s time. I started yesterday but got sidetracked. And today I have to weed before it rains. But, but, but…no one is here by us. My DH and my dog don’t even see it, so I get to it on my own schedule. Until company comes and then it’s a mad rush. 🙂

    Happy Saturday!

    1. Amen – I love that you know exactly what I’m talking about. I got sidetracked this week (morning) and saw that you can bunch up your hair from your hair brush and stick it in the dirt of your plants – supposedly there’s nitrogen in the hair that the plants like?! I don’t know about dog hair though…maybe I’ll have to investigate more? I do want a side gig that will pay big bucks! Now I must go dust.

  3. love your humor – and also thanks for sharing the joyful angst – that push pull to leave it til later and then later needs to come – ha
and we have had a lot of guests the last few months – so you know wants that means? cleaning and prepping a bit – and that has perks- dust bunnies postponed 🐰

quick question – how is the “dare to lead” book ?

    1. Aw, thanks, glad you enjoyed it. Guests coming always triggers me into emergency cleaning mode. I hope the appraiser appreciates my efforts.
Well, as you can see, it is on the bottom of my pile, so it hasn’t been dusted off to finish yet. I loved her Daring Greatly and Braving the Wilderness – she repeats much of those two books in Dare to Lead, plus she gets more technical (or detailed) about her research. I should just start it over and see if I can finish it. Have you read her other books?

      1. never heard of that author – but her books sound good! hope you get to explore it more – my “to be read” list is terribly long right now so i am
skimming some to see if i want to go deeper
        – oh and i love that photo with the books because it has hide spiral notebooks and the photo whispers of writing and reading and learning and growing 😊

        1. Brene’s writing is funny to read. She cuts to the chase.
Aw, thank you, I LOVE how you can tell stories with pictures you see – you’ve got a gift!

  4. Love your book collection, dust and all! The late afternoon light comes in my windows and Points Out the dust bunnies on the wood floors. !!!! Otherwise I can ignore.
Cleaning is annoying and does get in the way of more important things. Like fantastic photos…such as those close-ups you take 🙂

    1. Thank you, books are one of my weaknesses. Oh, yes, that afternoon lighting is brutal. Dang…that’s the time of the day the appraiser is coming. Thanks for pointing that out, now I need to focus on those areas too.
Thank you for the compliments, you’re doing well on your journey to discovering how fun close-ups are!

  5. Confession: dust bunnies live here too! I try to be neat and clean, do super well too but ya gotta let it go sometimes. I love that book that says the subtle art of not giving a ****!! ❤️

    1. YAY! I’m glad you admitted to that. I was thinking you’d tell me all your minimalism stuff kept those darn bunnies away. ;-)! It’s a fun read. Mark Manson’s take on life is inspiring.

      1. Honestly Shelley, I’ve needed to dust this house for say two weeks now but ya know what? Oh well! It’ll be there when I’m ready!

  6. I used to see signs that declared “our house is clean enough to be healthy and dirty enough to be happy.” Or, as the sign (actually a needlepoint thing) that hung in our kitchen at home, “God bless this mess.” Housekeeping falls somewhere toward the bottom of our list of priorities…

    1. LOL – we had those signs when I was growing up. My mom relied on me to do the cleaning. It wasn’t her thing. Must be why I’m tired of doing it now. I like your take on it! Thanks for sharing, John!

    1. Remember when the kids were young, and they were crawling around? I was always making sure the dust bunnies were captured, now…meh, the pets don’t seem to care. I found a lot today, so maybe I better not wait so long again! 😉

  7. Yeah, who’s idea was it to get a white dog when we have a brown carpet? We’ve been doing quite a bit more vacuuming around here than we did before. Dust bunnies in the hallway and to be honest, the kitchen floor doesn’t get swept as often as it should. Great post and absolutely love that close up picture of the plant!

    1. LOL – yeah, we had a Golden Retriever (Shedder) that left so much hair around. I rarely wore black pants back then. Pets shed, but while they’re around, they sure are fun. Thanks for sharing and thank you, I’m glad you liked the photos! 🙂

    1. LOL – it’s not my best friend, but my knees thank me when I use that instead of the crawling on the floor method! 🙂 Thanks for stopping by and for sharing your thoughts!!

  8. Very cute post and I have developed a bad attitude about the dust bunnies, preferring instead to photograph the outside honey bunnies at the park. Last week it was so stifling hot and it would have been a good time to catch up on “house duties” but storms loomed and I told myself it was silly to start anything that I may not finish … like laundry, or vacuuming, if the power went out. That was last weekend’s defiant attitude. Yesterday was my long-coveted and awaited “me day” and nothing was going to touch it. Today, I walked and went grocery shopping … I told myself that I did not need to put everything away right away, thus I could not dust and vacuum as things were in the way. It isn’t mature, but it works for me!

    1. Thank you. It was hot here yesterday, too. I finished all my cleaning and I was one sore chick. I’m glad you enjoyed a ‘me day’ and treated yourself to a day to do what you wanted to do!

      1. We all need to get away from it all sometimes – I need another day though after this week. We are having cooler temps Wednesday through Friday. Yay – hope it holds for the weekend, though I blew off my housework two weekends in a row and must do it this weekend – I shouldn’t even say that but I was just in a mood to stray from the routine as it was getting to me and last Sunday was too hot to do anything so I wrote the moon post, then the post on Sunday with the bunnies and ice cream.

        1. Yes, we do. I think it is healthy to stray from the norm – our brains need new input to recharge. Good for you, take care of yourself!

          1. Thanks – we are having nice weather after this cold front comes through – good through at least Saturday – whew. I’m so backed up at work, I may have to work part of the weekend to get the invoices out, but it would be after I return from walking – still fighting to get that goal done!

  9. My solution is if guests are going to arrive, place some Get Well Soon cards on the mantlepiece or sideboard so they will think you haven’t been well and will forgive the dust……bunnies and all 😀
