From Popcorn to Bourbon Glazed Salmon and the words in between

I sat there, all alone.  Well, maybe not completely alone, it was me, my thoughts, a pad of paper, and a pen.  My head was spinning with ideas, they were mixing and twirling about.

Like a machine.  Churning, churning, churning…

I sat there…waiting

Anticipating…

“How can I make sense of the ideas in this brain of mine?” I thought.

Soon they started to pop out of my head and on to the paper.  In a random order, a style only mother nature or those who know me can appreciate.

I paused to rest on a new idea.  Sprinkling some seasoned thoughts on top.

Will anyone like it?  Probably not, I tell myself.

I change spots to reflect.

I like being alone to think, it’s when I discover what matters most to me.

When it comes to my writing ideas, if I don’t show up ready to capture them, it won’t matter to anyone else, but it will matter to me.  It fills my soul when I find ways to capture my ideas.

I’m a rebel – no one can put a cork on the ideas but myself.

When I write or take photos to describe what I write about, I’m putting my soul out on my sleeve for the world (albeit a small one here on my blog) to see.  It’s risky and I know it can hurt when no one reads, but who cares?  Should I care?  Time to put a cork on self-pity!

I shake some more salt on my popcorn and find another spot to sit and wonder.

It’s better lighting here…I reflect some more.

I let the negative thoughts rinse away with the rain, they float off into the wind like a fluffy white cloud.

“That’s okay,” I say.  I remember that if I don’t like what I’m working on, my ideas can be discarded as rapidly as they appear.

Just like a seed that didn’t pop.

Not today, though, a small little idea that was almost discarded before it had a chance to burst from my blog to the big wide world, hit the spot.

And then, my popcorn photos were second fiddle to what popped on the table by Mr.  I was spoiled by the meal he cooked!  An amazing dinner (again).  Holy crap, mouth-watering delicious!  I ate every bite…and so did he!

Me:  “What are you making again?”

Mr:  “Bourbon Glazed Salmon, on a bed of greens, and side of Red Lentil Sweet Potato Soup.

Me:  I snap a reflective photo in my glass of Petite Sirah wine…”Yum, sounds delicious.”

Mr:  “I hope you know how much you’re spoiled?”

Me:  “Oh, yeah…I’m spoiled, and I know it!”

Let’s let the pictures do the talking here…

Even in black and white, it looks damn tasty!

  1. Lovely pictures and that Bourbon glaze looked amazing.
I’m afraid I don’t like popcorn at all, or the smell of it. It makes going to the Cinema quite an ordeal for me. I like Salt and Vinegar crisps (potato chips) and sometimes have then in a sandwich. 🙂 We Brits are a breed apart. 🙂

    1. Thank you, Kristian – it was amazing…wish there were leftovers for breakfast! Oh, my, I can imagine going to the cinema wouldn’t be fun if you didn’t like popcorn! I’m with you on liking the Salt & Vinegar chips, though! It’s fun to hear about your British take on snacks! Thanks for sharing and for stopping by!!

  2. I love the comparison of popcorn and ideas! I’m not sure I can even compete with this one, you’ve set a high standard. I’ll give it a shot, when I find something good to eat!

    1. Thank you, the idea just popped into my head ;-)! That darn husband of mine, giving me such awesome food to eat and take pictures of ;-)! I look forward to seeing what tasty food you find to share!
