Flirty side of nature

Grab a cup of coffee or tea and join me in a stroll in my yard to see how nature flirts with me.

If we were walking along together, I’d tell you that it’s been one heck of a week for me.  Yesterday was the first day I was able to hold my camera.  I had injured my right shoulder in a freak pile-up of actions that caused impingement of my supraspinatus tendon and the whole darn rotator cuff shoulder area took a hiatus until I found ways to get it back to work properly without pain.  It’s still not 100%, but holy moly, I sure had taken for granted how much I use my right arm.

Then I’d tell you, that injury did make me pause and reflect often.  And how I love the peacefulness of walking in my yard to make things better when I’m feeling down.

In the evenings, I can hear the sounds of the birds chirping, the hum of the jump plane in the air, and the screams of those brave souls wearing parachutes – the whooshing sounds of the chutes as they open up draw my eyes to the skies.  It’s fun to watch them as they fall from the sky.

It’s hard to see, but the tiny dots on the right of the photo are the parachutes.

Then I’d tell you, while sunsets are great to see, mornings are my favorite time to walk in the yard.

I love to notice the tiny dewdrops grab onto surfaces and greet the sunlight, I smile as I get lost in nature’s flirtatious moments.

PS – Happy Weekend – I hope you’re doing well.  An action that really hurt my shoulder was doing work at my computer.  Extending my arm to reach for the mouse made me flinch in pain.  Thankfully, that’s not so bad now, but I need to take breaks often to avoid aggravating it.  So … I appreciate your patience in my slow responses to comments.  I will catch up with you soon!  xx

  1. These are beautiful photos, Shelley.I love the long shadows and the sun in the distance. You did a great job with this prompt!

    1. Thank you, Dan. I love it when you capture long shadows of you and Maddie on your walks. I wasn’t sure where to go with the prompt, glad you like how it turned out!

  2. Hi Shelley! First, I am glad your shoulder is doing better, ouch! Photo two is so cool, Copper’s shadow makes him look giant! And the crazy people jumping from airplanes? Crazy… It’s cool though that you can hear them screaming! Oh, your husband gets two thumbs up on the look of your lawn! 😎👍🏻👍🏻

  3. First I’m hearing about the jumpers! Got my magnifying glass … I see at least 4, and 1 that could be a group of a few … they seem pretty far away yet the screams reach you! Glad both you and Copper are doing so much better. Take your time … we need that shoulder!!!!!!

    1. Yeah, I don’t talk about the jumpers that often. They’re up there 2-3 times a week. It’s kind of a normal sound in our neighborhood. We’ve even had them land in the adjoining field. One time, years ago, they even did a naked at night drop. Sigh.
Yes, we’re both doing better. I’m taking it easy so I don’t get a relapse!

  4. Have you been icing and/or using a heating pad on your shoulder? They usually tell you heat for a chronic injury and ice for an acute one, but sometimes the “wrong” one works better. And of course Ben-Gay works really well on it. And just remember what a friend of mine told me: if it ain’t hurtin’, it ain’t workin’…

    1. I rescued your comment from my Spam folder – guess the recommended ointment doesn’t fit the new normal narrative. Yes, I was doing both icing and heat and Motrin. I think I worked it too much so that’s why it was hurting. I’m no spring chicken, so I need to pay attention when it first starts to hurt! Thank you for sharing your advice, John!

    1. Thank you, Jill, I’m glad you enjoyed the walk. Congrats to the graduate in your family. With the spikes in Texas, I’m glad to read you’re safe and well. We’ll all make it through this, one way or another! 🙂

  5. I’m so glad you’re feeling better. Thank you for the lovely stroll. This weekend, our high temps are in the low 90s (F) and the mosquitoes are tenacious, so I’m not spending much time in my own yard. But your photos and descriptions are a nice virtual outdoor adventure of the peaceful kind. (My favorite.) I love this line: “I smile as I get lost in nature’s flirtatious moments.”

    1. Thank you, JoAnna – I’m glad you enjoyed the walk and that line. I had fun reading your take on the prompt.
We’ve got similar weather here for the next few days – 90’s is hot here in WI – very humid too. The mosquitoes haven’t been too much of a problem, but we did get a lot of rain leading up to this, so I’m sure they’ll be hungry and ready to munch on me.

  6. It was nice to get acquainted with your garden again since it’s been a while. Sorry to hear about your shoulder impingement and you would not think the camera is heavy, but raising your arms up a certain angle – ouch. I had the shoulder issues last year and even a blanket on it was sore. Last year when I smashed my finger in the garage door I could not hold the big camera for a long time … the ring finger on my right hand was sore and could not grip the grip bar on the camera.

    1. Thanks for joining me on the walk around the yard. Thankfully my shoulder is all better. You’re right on – when it was hurting the camera seemed so HEAVY. Yes, I remember when you had your injuries, I hope they are all better now. And I hope you’re able to get out and enjoy the parks and feed the squirrels!

      1. I was surprised the camera felt so heavy Shelley because it is light compared to the old 35mm camera that I used in the early 80s. My finger could not grasp and curl around the grip bar at all and occasionally I still have problems typing if my nails get too long It hurts the fingernail, even though I didn’t lose it. It could have been much worse, that’s for sure. I am hoping they don’t close the Park again because we were supposed to go to the next level for the long holiday and we did not and the Governor said today that we’ll revert a level if there are more cases. We had a group of 14 people go to a bar in East Lansing and now numbers have stretched into the 70+ of people affected by the original 14 people – all 70+ people have COVID-19. Scary stuff.

        1. Our bodies are quite amazing – and telling when they don’t quite like what we’re doing after an injury.
Yep – we’ve had spikes too, but it’s not stopping people here from going out to the beach and lake and bars. Despite the #’s and recommendations to stay home.

          1. That one bar in East Lansing caused 158 cases – it rises every day. Now the CDC confirms today that COVID-19 is airborne – wasn’t it always airborne and this is why we wear masks? They said that is why the spike – not protests or big gatherings, but more people inside in bars/restaurants. Everything seems problematic these days it seems.

          2. That sounds like an exaggerate number of ‘probable’ cases to me? Many times I’ve seen where they count people in a family of a person who was in contact with a positive person, without testing to confirm. I thought it was air borne droplets. It’s hard to keep up with how many times the risks for contracting the virus had changed according to the CDC. Close proximity to a person who is positive is the greatest risk. I agree, there’s plenty about this whole year that is problematic. I’d take another snowy cold winter over this, how about you?

          3. Yes, I don’t know what to think anymore and the best mask type seems to vary as well. I am wearing a mask every day to the Park even though I’m one of few who does so. I went to the dentist last Thursday to get my teeth cleaned and was nervous about doing so. But I had a May 5th appointment and when they rescheduled, I said I was not ready and I scheduled it for September 17th. Then I heard about the spike in cases and resurgence, so called and asked for a 9:00 a.m. cancellation if they had it – next day they called and I got in. They were very careful but I still was out of my comfort zone. I go to the eye doctor on July 24th which will necessitate a second visit to pick up glasses. That’s it for me – I think things will get much worse in the next month and I hope our Park is not put back on lockdown again

          4. There’s a lot of conflicting information about masks, so, I hear ya on not knowing what to do.
I’m impressed that you made your dental and vision appointments. I need to do both, but have been putting them off too. In all the years that I’ve been doing both of those types of appointments I’ve never gotten sick. They are a safe place in my opinion, they have cleaning protocols that have stood the test of time.
Time will tell on the spikes or not in the months to come. I do hope there aren’t any lockdowns again.

          5. Yes, today they suggested cutting up vacuum cleaner filters as an alternative to layer between masks. I just worried about another spike and being more worried then to get the routine visits done.

  7. Thanks for the fun adventure outside. I hope your shoulder heals up all the way soon. The right arm is an important one. 😉 And I love the collection of quotes you weave in with the images. Great macro shots as always 🙂

    1. Thank you, I appreciate your encouragement. The right arm is back to ‘normal’! I sure missed it when it wasn’t working!

  8. I’m sorry about your shoulder. I had a rotator cuff injury once and yes, it does make you realize how much you use your arm!! I hope you are on the way to a full recovery. Love your photos…is that a she=shed in your back yard? 🙂

    1. Thanks, Dawn. A shoulder is an important body part! Yes, I’m fully recovered, thank goodness.
In a way, it’s a she-shed, but it was built as a Tea House. My husband designed and built it, and we share it as a get-a-way spot in our yard. We listen to music and chat out there. I do spend quiet time out there reading too.

  9. I enjoyed our walk together through your yard. I love the photos and the quotes are…well….just…WOW!! Hope your healing is going well. xx

    1. Xan, thank you so much for joining my walk! I love seeing your vineyard photos, so I’m happy to read you enjoyed my yard. Yes, healing is going well, thank you for the well wishes.

  10. So sorry to read about your shoulder! I’m really glad it’s getting better and you don’t need surgery. It is absolutely horrible to be without your dominant arm. Your photos are beautiful, as always!
