Don’t mess with my sleep

Quality sleep is essential for Hoomans.  As they turn 50 something, it becomes a BHAG of sorts to get a good long night of sleep.

Especially when they have hairy pets who interrupt their sleep because they also have BHAGs about being fed on schedule.

Aka, Dessy’s schedule.

She knows the precise tactics to use like walking on bladders, headbutting co-workers along the way to her interrupting the Hoomans who may or may not be snoring at work.

Her techniques are predictable, and always questionable from Hooman perspective.

Yet, we fall for meeting her goals every day.  Like clockwork, we punch into the role of Pet Feeder.

Her work is completed when she gets fed, and then she can nap all she wants until the next craving rumbles in her tummy.

She likes this tiny little spot in the kitchen.

The only consolation to her waking us up is when we witness her naps being interrupted.

It happened this week.  And it involved an episode not caught on film, so you’ll just have to believe me.  It was too messy, I had to clean it up right away so the water didn’t seep into the floorboards.

Mr. didn’t see it either, he said she was laying all comfy and cozy (like Hoomans do when they sleep), and her sister must’ve done something that scared Dessy enough she felt the need to bolt.

FAST.

We think her sister jumped to the table with a loud thud, just like when Dessy jumps on the bed to wake us up.

The aftermath of the apparent short burst of energy involved the pet bed skirting from its spot on the floor to under the table; the dog’s water bowl spilled into a puddle all over the floor, and numerous broken cat nails were scattered on the floor leading to a trail to another room downstairs.

It must’ve been a quick show.  I wish I would’ve had the deer cam facing that direction instead of the tree.  Which by the way, I need to take a peek at the photos to see who’s sneaking around in that room.

Anyhoo, that was a BHAG move for her, because, Dessy’s not tiny, she’s got redundant tissue to move.

And it takes a lot for her to get inertia going.  But when she does, watch out, there’s no stopping her hairy belly from flying side to side as her ears lay back and her tail puffs up.  She does look like this funny video on YouTube (from No Body?!)

She looks HUGE and scary and hairy…like, yeah, you guessed it…

The disagreement or standoff remained in their heads for hours as both cats laid on the floor and stared at each other until they fell asleep for a cat nap.  Or perhaps they were just meeting and planning the next snack break or how they were going to wake me the next morning.

Because that’s where this #SoCS post started…my Christmas wish for last night was to get a good long night of sleep and possibly even sleep in to recharge my brain from a long work week.

Nope.  Nada chance.

But, guess who is back to sleep now that her tummy is full…

Post Inspiration Linda G. Hill’s Stream of Consciousness Saturday – Hairy

Astream-of-consciousness-saturday-2018-19

If you’ve never played along with the SoCS, it’s fun – here are the rules, check it out.  You’ll meet some great bloggers while you’re at it.

Here are the rules:

1. Your post must be a stream of consciousness writing, meaning no editing (typos can be fixed), and minimal planning on what you’re going to write.

2. Your post can be as long or as short as you want it to be. One sentence – one thousand words. Fact, fiction, poetry – it doesn’t matter. Just let the words carry you along until you’re ready to stop.

3. I will post the prompt here on my blog every Friday, along with a reminder for you to join in. The prompt will be one random thing, but it will not be a subject. For instance, I will not say “Write about dogs”; the prompt will be more like, “Make your first sentence a question,” “Begin with the word ‘The,’” or will simply be a single word to get you started.

4. Pingback! It’s important so that I and other people can come and read your post! For example, in your post, you can write “This post is part of SoCS:” and then copy and paste the URL found in your address bar at the top of this post into yours.  Your link will show up in my comments for everyone to see. The most recent pingbacks will be found at the top. NOTE: Pingbacks only work from WordPress sites. If you’re self-hosted or are participating from another host, such as Blogger, please leave a link to your post in the comments below.

5. Read at least one other person’s blog who has linked back their post. Even better, read all of them! If you’re the first person to link back, you can check back later or go to the previous week by following my category, “Stream of Consciousness Saturday,” which you’ll find below the “Like” button on my post.

6. Copy and paste the rules (if you’d like to) in your post. The more people who join in, the more new bloggers you’ll meet and the bigger your community will get!

7. As a suggestion, tag your post “SoCS” and/or “#SoCS” for more exposure and more views.

8. Have fun!

PS – Happy Saturday – hope you have a great day!

  1. First and foremost, you are here to serve. The dog’s water bowl must be the universal disaster waiting to happen. If it isn’t the cats spilling it, it’s the clumsy humans in this place stubbing into it and sloshing water over one side and another.

  2. I might have to borrow BHAG. As in sleeping through the night is definitely a BHAG. Dessy is beautiful. Those eyes!

  3. Mary always claims I remind her of the Abominable Snowman from “Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer.”

I love that fat kitty running! Reminds me of a couple of mine (from earlier days, of course).

  4. I had not heard of a BHAG. Thank you! Sleeping through the night is something I don’t expect anymore. When it happens, it’s a real treat. Thank God for naps.

    1. I learned about BHAG about 10 years ago at work. The Good to Great book that it comes from is a great book (for work stuff). I hope you get a nap in and the rest you need.

  5. Cats are so funny and get spooked so easy. Lately Facebook has been filled with funny videos of cats getting spooked, cats being the boss of dogs and cats just being cats. So funny. Taking a break from cats right now. Where I currently live, I cant let them go outside and I think they need that a little at least.
