Don’t blame the cat, it’s the bird’s own fault

I was just enjoying my own business, watching the cute little birds hop around while they gathered pieces of grass from the ground.

I’m NOT to blame, it’s the birds, I tell ya.

And, this cozy window spot, it invites all kinds of creatures to perch right here.

I was minding my own business and just above my head is where it happened.  Outta nowhere…

THUD.

Yep, I flinched my two eyes shut and ran.  It scared the h*ll out of me when a darling bird flew, with speed of sunlight, right into the window pane.  The sound is still ringing in my ears.

THUD.

Sorry, no action of the before, or after captured in photos, just the sounds of hoomans discerning the source of the sudden relocation action…

“Oh, my, was that a bird, is it dead?”

“Yep, it’s lying right there on the ground…”

“Oh, dear, how sad…”

Yep…folks, sorry to tell ya, but that cute bird, with its small brain, didn’t know better than to fly into a window, he must have read “Murder for Dummies”.

As I told you, though, it’s not my fault, cats are not to blame.

  1. I hate when that happens. We have those glass storm doors, and sometimes a bird will fly into it. We put stickers & things on the glass to maybe help them see that it is glass, but it still happens. So far they’ve all shook it off and flew away. Probably had a headache though!

    1. Yes, I always wonder about those mirrors too. Our cats love to watch, I doubt they’d know what to do if they actually encountered a bird.

  2. Aw man! That always makes me feel bad. I guess the cats are the cleanup crew. I’ve had hummingbirds do that. I pick them up and hold them and so far, they’ve woken up and eventually flown away. It’d break my heart if they died.

  3. One time I was running in Pittsburgh early in the morning one spring day. On the sidewalk, beside an office building with a lot of glass, lay a tiny, beautiful yellow warbler, dead. He had apparently crashed into one of the windows and broken his neck. So sad! It was years ago, and I still remember finding that bird.

  4. We used to have that happen all the time because there was a berry tree up the street and the birds would eat the berries, get “drunk” and fly straight into our window. Poor things.

    1. At a place I worked before, they had a tree like that and you’re right, the birds would fly drunk and right into windows!

  5. I never knew that statistic. I remember once an owl flew into our window one bright moonlit night when we lived in NC. He didn’t die but I am sure he saw a few stars before flying away. He sat there for about 5 minutes gathering his wits.

    1. Wow – owls are pretty big, that must’ve been quite the sound hitting the window. It’s nice when all they do is knock themselves out for a bit and recover to fly off and try a different landing spot.
