That sink is big enough for a cat bath!?

The weekend here in our little corner of the world gave way to a few wins.  The long-awaited 4th sink arrived.  But we can’t install it yet.

Nope…there’s more to do before it can go in – but the momentum is picking up and we on the home stretch to a win-win-win Thanksgiving Day dinner can be cooked in this kitchen kinda win.

Yep, you spotted the problem, we can’t attach backsplash tiles if there isn’t a backing to attach them to.  And we need room to do that before the sink goes in.

Mr:  “I’ll build one.” – (With all sorts of rabbets, trimming, gluing, clamping, and Kilzing later, it still wasn’t ready to install – but the glue had to sit for 24 hours).

So I read some more of the book I’m reading, ate cheese and crackers, sipped some wine – before eating Tostitos.  I’m reading Damyanti Biswas’ You Beneath Your Skin Have you read it?!  I’m really enjoying it.  I won’t spoil it for you – suffice it to say, it keeps your attention!

That was on Saturday, then it was time to turn in and go to sleep on the 12th night without a sink.

IMG_0842csskrupa3
Mr. woke up and pre-measured spacing for all of the tiles and the backsplash holder was ready for installation.
IMG_0843csskrupa3
A loud nail gun did the trick (the noise scared all of the animals in the process).

As Mr. was nailing away, I glanced out the window and saw a US Postal truck pulling in the driveway! On Sunday – Amazon Prime to the rescue!

What could it be?

We knew…we hoped…we’ve been dreaming of this day!  Will this be the sink from Amazon Prime Heaven?

IMG_0847csskrupa3
No damaged edges on the exterior.  That’s a good sign.
IMG_0850csskrupa3
Hurry…open it up, I’m keeping my fingers crossed!
IMG_0852csskrupa3
Mr: “I can tell already it’s going to be fine, it’s packaged way better than the last 3!”

Me:  “Take it out…I wanna see for sure!  I’m so excited, I sure the heck hope it isn’t cracked.”

IMG_0857csskrupa3
The box is huge – a perfect spot for a cat to take a bath!
IMG_0855csskrupa3
A really long bath at that!
IMG_0858csskrupa3
The box can hold a cat-sized bathtub!

It wasn’t cracked…it was perfect, better than the one we originally ordered.  Now that’s a company that wants to make sure its products arrive safe and sound.

IMG_0854csskrupa3

But…don’t get too excited, we can’t install it yet…

IMG_0860csskrupa3
The tiles have to adhere into place.
IMG_0863csskrupa3
Each one, carefully and precisely placed.
IMG_0865csskrupa3
Me: “Have you ever done this before?”
IMG_0867csskrupa3
Mr:. “Nope, I’m learning as I go.”
IMG_0870csskrupa3
Me: “Looks like you’ve spent time doing the planning.”
IMG_0873csskrupa3
Mr: “Yep, you know me.  Now, they have to dry 24-48 hours, then grout can be applied, then that has to dry 24-48 hours.”
IMG_0875csskrupa3
Then we can install the sink…on the 15th or 16th day without a sink?

Mr. finished up that phase of the project as it started to snow outside and the Packer game kicked off.  The Packers won the game while playing in the snow at Lambeau Field.  They must like colder weather, last week’s game in California must’ve been the wrong climate for them?

Thank goodness we at least have the sink to install!  The 4th one’s the charm!

Post Inspiration – A few wins for the weekend!

PS – What is your favorite cheese?  Are you reading a good book?  Have you ever installed glass tiles before?  Did you have a great weekend – what did you do for fun?

  1. Aw love being on this little journey with you guys!

    So

    My fave cheese is halloumi.

It’s from the beautiful island where I have my roots

    Xx

    1. Thank you, I’m happy you stop by to check out our little ol’ section of the blogosphere. Thanks again for teaching me something – I’ve never heard of that cheese. And I live in the Cheesehead state in the US! Halloumi would be a hit here – we love deep fried cheese curds!!! xx

        1. I’ll need to shop the specialty cheese aisle – I don’t think I’ve seen it alphabetically next to Cheddar here in Wisconsin. But, I have added it to the shopping list, Mr. knows where to go to find new items and he’ll probably find a recipe to go with it too.

  2. Wow, I’m glad this sink isn’t cracked Shelley! I love the choice, looks great. I love cheese made by Yancy, they have so many delicious versions, one of which I finished off just a bit ago. Yum!!

    1. Thank you, John – we’re happy too! I’m looking forward to seeing it in place. Yancy – sounds fancy. Is that a Vegas brand? I’m a Cheesehead for sure. Do you like cheesecurds??

  3. Looks great. Love the gray. You have plenty of time before Thanksgiving. I was working a lot in the studio to get things organized for the upcoming boutiques I have. Tomorrow is the first one. Wish me luck.

    1. Thank you, Janet. Shh…don’t say there’s plenty of time, my whip cracking won’t work as well if that secret gets out! Good luck on your boutiques!!!!!

    1. Thank you, Anita. You’ve got that right – every box has potential and must be thoroughly inspected before napping in it.

  4. Hooray!! I suspect we all can’t wait for the sink to finally be in place! Meanwhile the box looks like a nice place … big enough for you and cat both!

    1. LOL – Yeah, we’re all waiting for the project to be done! The box has been a happy spot for the cats. Plenty of room for both of them to sprawl out in. I haven’t tried to crawl in there, I may get stuck!

    1. Thanks, Dan, so far, so good. There’s plenty of tweaking going on too. We’re taking our time since it’ll be another 30+ years before we’d wanna do this again.

  5. Sweet! Things are coming together! And it’s going to look awesome!

We did most of the tile work in our bathroom remodel and one day really stands out to me. We were putting a tile strip (tiny tiles on peel off sheets, then grout) around the sinks. The set in mirrors didn’t quite fit when we were finished and I knew I had some leeway to adjust the tiny tiles to make up the small gap, but it had to be FAST before they set. DH was so frustrated with the whole project, he just said it’s good enough. But not for the Whip Cracker. LOL. I told him to take a walk, took them down and repositioned a whole section of them to look perfect (or nearly) while he was gone. Yes, besides being a Whip Cracker, I’m a pain-in-the-butt perfectionist.

Your Mr. appears to be very creative and handy.

    1. Thank you! Yes, slowly but surely and methodically and perfectly it is getting done. We’re doomed – Mr. and I are perfectionists too!
That’s awesome – I bet DH was impressed too.
I would’ve done the same thing if I was brave and handier with the tools. I’m impressed you were brave enough to take it all off and reposition it. Nice job, fellow WC and PITBP!
Mr. is both – he plans well before he acts.

  6. That’s a long process for sure. My father put rustic-looking bricks above the back splash in the kitchen. You can see them when I take pictures of items I put on the countertop. The bricks had to be cut in half horizontally o fit under the windowsill. I remember he used grout and it took forever to do the entire project and of course, had to be careful not to splash any water on them while doing dishes til everything was dry.
