Oh dear, mom had a beer (and chips)

Yes, my dear,

she had one beer…

On the 21st day of replacing a habit,

you’d think by now it’d be set dagnabit.

Breaking not just one of my new habits,

but two, oh, my, they multiplied like rabbits.

Those who’ve paved the way before,

tell you by that day, your longing will be no more.

To them, this I have to say,

“Oy vey!”

Echoes of habits made profound in the past,

do linger longer than they should last.

A simple desire may be a key,

to what we want to be changed seem to flee,

But when you’re ready to celebrate,

a task or two (or piles of papers) you finally can negate.

A salty bowl of Tostitos chips – with a chaser of a beer

tastes dang good my dear…

Maybe I should blame it on the full moon?… Nah, it brought with it I found,

a shedding of not just one, but 6 unexpected pounds!

At least I didn’t celebrate with a martini,

cuz’ after all, if I do stick with this…dang girl…you might just fit into that bikini?

Previous 001

So, yeah, I am back on track, on day twenty-one.

So what if I slipped along the way…I’m still mighty determined to carry on

this long distance trek of a Dry January will complete

as one helluva feat!

Post Inspiration – Linda G. Hill’s #JusJoJan – Echo; prompt thanks to Lady Lee.

PS – The good news is I got my tax prep completed!!  I’m not disappointed in my celebration.  I am anxious to keep going through with the (almost) Dry January month – only 11 more days to go……….!

  1. Good on you for celebrating. I might even have a beer *looks in fridge…..well perhaps a cider or a wine. I have some yummy Camembert and Fig flavoured chips that will just have to do.

  2. 21 days is a good long time, Shelley, and it’s only a beer. You might even all it “research” – just checking to see if the taste buds are still aware.

  3. Love the poem. Did you catch the eclipse? It was too cloudy here. I am bummed about that. 21 days is long enough to make a habit they say and also they say that as long as you follow the 80/20 rule you’ll be okay (80% focused on your goal and 20% little slips). Forge on Shelley!

    1. Thank you, Janet. No…I missed the eclipse, and dang…it was clear here, too! Thank you for the encouragement and support to carry on!

  4. You still get an “Atta Girl” Shelley as you have a lot of balls in the air and you juggle them perfectly … you slipped once, no biggie and congrats … 6 pounds and you’ll look great in that pretty red bikini. Wait til it is a little warmer though to enjoy it on the beach okay?

    1. Thank you, Linda! Your support means a lot to me! Don’t worry, I won’t be putting that thing on until I hit the beach!! It’s way too cold here!!!

  5. I’m doing Dry January, too. Rather more in the spirit of it [no pun intended], than the details of it. I’ve had a few glasses of wine & a beer, but I feel that I’m on track. Thus I say you are, too.

    1. Thank you for sharing your journey with Dry January. My friend is doing a ‘reduced January’ – and like you she said that is just as valid and works well too! Congrats on sticking to it!!
