Friday Fun with K’s and L’s in our kitchen remodel

If you want to learn how to have fun when you’re remodeling your kitchen, you have to be willing to ask yourself lots of questions.  It’s important to be wondering what’s next all the time.  Especially if you’re a whip-cracker like me.  And you also have to have diversions to occupy your tendencies to crack the whip when the project stalls unexpectantly.

On a side note, are you inquisitive like me?  Do you wonder WTH?  This week, WordPress has been messing with me.  Earlier this week, I stumbled upon a weird stat phenomenon.  How in the world are stats from a previous month, showing up in the middle of another month?

AWPStatMysteryCapture

I didn’t do anything, I did point it out to Mr. who wasn’t impressed.  So I waited it out. Today, it’s back to normal, somethings in WordPress magically work themselves out I guess.

But there are always more questions flying around in my head.  The stat thing led me to wonder how do people do polls on their blogs?  So I figured that out.  I thought I had a hunch so I made a list, and then the hunch revealed that hmm… I had no clue.  What the heck constitutes “other”?  Maybe someday, I’ll get around to making a better poll.

And then, all of a sudden, I realized the week flew by and it was Friday.  And the kitchen remodel is still in pending mode.  I knew you were dying the hear where things are at, right?

What in the world are we waiting for anyhow?  It involves a sink, of course, but also another thing.  Which required some new tools. Again.

But it made for a fun photo op.

What’s holding us back from getting the caulking done? Ah, yes, it’s simple really.  Apparently the wrong kind was originally purchased specifically for a color match to the new countertops.  First attempt to apply it was a major show-stopping bust.  It was extra peanut buttery and didn’t spread where it was supposed to.  So it was all removed.

Off to the store Mr. flew.  Again.  I wonder what costs more, the new countertops or the gas spent to go to the store?

Of course, once the new caulk arrived, the whip cracker’s excitement accompanied a scowl on her face, and Mr.’s.  Her scowl didn’t initiate action, but it did help change his mind when he said with a scowl on his brow, “I’ll do it tomorrow.”

His own internal desire to complete the dreaded task at hand won out. (Insert big smiley face on whip-cracker here).

The lovely demanding ladies in our house everywhere are begging this man to do something.  There’s no break for the handyman.

Where’s my treat?

The sad thing is I’ve got plenty of my own tasks to do.  I should cut Mr. some slack.  I’ll make a list later to show him I can keep busy too.  But first, I should get the clothes outta the dryer from when I put them there on Monday night after they sat in the washer all Monday day.  We both may be outta underwear?

I also wonder why do geese not fly in a V?  Someone is supposed to take the Lead.

That’s a K if I ever saw one.

And, last but not least, I woke this morning to an earworm stuck in my head to this song.

Except I’m hearing the following words fitting to the tune somehow?

The caulk has dried…we’re ready to roll…just strike here baby and get that damn Kitchen sink installed.

Post Inspiration – Cee’s Black and White Photography Challenge – Starting with Letters K and L (where, yet once again, I give an odd twist to fit the prompt).

PS – Happy Friday all!  What are you wondering about today?  Have you made a list of things to get done?  Do you like John Denver singing that song or Peter, Paul, and Mary?

  1. I have to ask, what part of this project required the shears? I’m good with them, I think I have that same set, but curious minds at work here. The caulking looks good, I’m sure the sink will look great.

By the way, it’s not a DIY project if it doesn’t require at least 3 trips to the hardware store.

    1. LOL – I’m not surprised to hear you have a set of those tools :-). Mr. is replacing the range-hood and he has to magically move the slot the old one was in to a different spot in the ductwork higher up on the wall. The pre-planning has been happening and he’s tickled to have the set of shears that do each different angled cut. Now he just needs to brave up enough courage to cut the wall.
You and Mr. think a lot a like. 😉

  2. I really like the countertop! Your kitchen looks great and it’s not even done. I love how kitty is up in Mr’s face, sooo cute!

    1. Thank you, John! We’re going for less is more look to let the countertops be the feature of the room. (aka, minimalist like!) Yes, Tizzie loves to do that. She’s quite persistent.

  3. Ah, the repeated trips to the store. Yes, a part of every great home project! 🙂 You’re close! And everyone gets a little testy (especially the Whip Cracker) when you get close. LOL.

    1. Repeat or daily, it’s a toss up. We’re close – I hear we may finish this weekend? Rumors happen during DIY projects too. I’m trying very hard to control the Whip Cracker. I’m sending her off to do dusting, vacuuming and donating stuff. That’ll teach her to be so preoccupied with what’s not done yet. LOL!

  4. Maybe that was our problem when we were still doing projects around the house – neither of us is a good whip-cracker! Our next project around here will be to pack our belongings. I’m ready to downsize! Can’t wait to see photos of the finished kitchen. I bet you can’t wait either!

    1. LOL – so the teacher in you didn’t come out and help the project along? 😉 Downsizing is a big project, the whip-cracker in me has to encourage myself a lot. Good for you – I bet you’ll be happy when that’s done too. We’re gradually weeding out stuff as we do this project. Only the ‘loved’ items will make it back into the space. Yes -We’re anxious for the end of the project. 🙂

      1. Haha! No. I was actually not a good whip cracker when I was a teacher, either, although my former students may have a different opinion! 🙂

  5. I’m going to say I prefer John Denver, mostly beause I don’t like Peter, Paul & Mary.

The counter and accompanying backsplash look great to me, but then, what do I know?

  6. Hi Shelley! I thought about as little as possible today, just worked to get caught up then made two blog posts on my lunch break. I don’t believe I’ve ever heard John Denver sing “Leaving on a Jet Plane”, but I do like most everything I’ve heard by him. I do enjoy Peter, Paul, & Mary’s version.

    1. Hi Denny!!!! You read my mind – I’ve been thinking about you lately and wondering what you’ve been up to?! I’m so glad you stopped by to share your thoughts. So you’re a music lover as well as a book lover!?! I hope you have a wonderful weekend!!!!

      1. Absolutely, and I make sure my kids are exposed to a wide range of music. The Girl & I share new discoveries all the time and love talking about them in the car or at dinner. The Girl’s excited about tonight’s end-of-season volleyball party tonight; her team placed 2nd in the City tournament. The Boy’s thrilled because his 2 best friends are coming for a sleepover. What do you & The Mister have planned?

        1. You’re such a great dad. Soak up all those moments, they fly by all too quickly. Yay for the placement of 2nd in the city!! Time to celebrate, that’s for sure. What do boys do on sleepovers – I had two girls, and their parties we exhausting. I hope you all survived and had fun. Mr. and I toasted to another phase in the DIY project and had half of a take out pizza. The rest will be gobbled up today. Pretty darn exciting eh?!

          1. I hope my empty nest years are as excitingly restful as yours, Shelley!

On sleepovers, 8-9 year old boys around here like to play on the WiiU or electronic game console of choice, watch DVDs, play with Legos, play board games, and generally make A LOT of noise. I had the kiddos accompany me to the local recycle drop-off center & help dump our 2-week accumulation of recyclables then treated them to pizza & ice cream then put them to bed at 10:00. At 11:00, I had to imply the threat of bodily harm to get them finally to lie still & be quiet long enough to fall asleep.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving. I hope y’all get to see one or both of your girls!

          2. Oh, I have a hunch your empty nest years will be exciting with bouts of rest in between.
Okay, boys and girls parties are the ‘same’ then. The noise factor is consistent. Since our kids were both born in July (yeah, nice planning on our part), after Mr. built the TeaHouse in our back yard, we would set them up out in that for their parties. They could be loud all they wanted. Plus the early morning sun rise as it heated up the place made them pay for staying up too late. 😉
I hope you too have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Yes, our two daughters will be here with us. We’re super excited!

  7. Definitely Peter, Paul and Mary. On another topic – I also wonder about everything. I was the one (and still am) who asks why this and why that. Or why NOT. Or WTH. That WordPress weird issue would make me wonder too. The kitchen is looking good though! Maybe by now there have been enough trips to the hardware store to make it legit!!

    1. You do love great music, I remember that about you. I’m always the “why” person. Does it drive you crazy when other’s ask you why you do things or does it excite you to have the opportunity to elaborate as to why? WordPress always makes me wonder WTH! Thank you – we’re liking it so far, and rumor has it this weekend it will be done enough for Thanksgiving. After that we’ll work on refinishing the cupboard fronts and put on new hinges. That’s not as exciting as all this other stuff that is slow to respond to the whip-cracking! 😉

      1. It doesn’t bother me to be asked why, because I understand…why they ask! 🙂
I’ll bet you will be extra thankful when your kitchen is done – a Thanksgiving to remember, that’s for sure!

  8. Peter, Paul and Mary, please. Your kitchen is looking good and your stats, while goofy, are impressive. Interesting how Other is how the majority of us found you. Wonder what that means about us, you, life, and the universe? Happy Weekend.

    1. PPM wins the majority of votes. Thank you on the kitchen. It’s getting there.
One of these days, I’m going to tag your blog to reference the ‘word searches’ that find me. Maybe that has something to do with it? Nah…I asked if it was Google. Hmm. I found that ‘other’ factor interesting as well. Happy Weekend to you too! Stay cool – as in awesome! 😉

  9. I noticed in Reader that now the “likes” show the names and mini gravatar – that is something new that I noticed, but not noticed anything else lately, but that was something big. I am still using Gutenberg, though I have not done a slideshow since the transition … one time I did a hybrid that I edited in block editor, used a classic editor slideshow, but saved it in block editor. Thought I was smart there … no option to do that now … it’s either/or. I like Peter Paul and Mary singing that song as that is the only version I heard for the longest time … how about “Puff the Magic Dragon” by PP&M – now there’s a real ear worm for you.

    1. Hmm…I don’t see that in my Reader. Sigh. I couldn’t figure out the slideshow in Gutenberg, so that’s why I didn’t jump on with it yet. I’ve done what you’ve said – go back and forth to get it posted, but what a PIB that is!
Thanks…I was just looking for a new earworm!! LOL

      1. It might be since you host your own site? It is just a new feature, the last day or so.

Yes, and once you hear that one, you won’t forget it. I volunteered one year at our City’s annual Christmas display and they had a row of puppet shows (animated puppets that had music going while they twirled around) … one song was “Puff, the Magic Dragon” and the other was “All I want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth” … I thought I’d lose my mind as they played all day long, and I never understood why they didn’t just turn them off while there were no visitors – this was during set-up. I volunteered in the late 60s – I have seen a recent video of a walk-thru of “Fantasyland” on Facebook and they have the same puppets, singing the same song all these years later.
