Review – faux silk pillow protectors by Sharper Image

Come on, fess up, you’ve been there.  You know you’ve done it too.  While harboring a delirious state of mind, in midst of the Black Friday shopping crowds, you broke down and bought something you didn’t have on your shopping list.  After pondering, and of course a little rationalizing, you said to yourself, “Why not?  It’s Christmas time. I should just splurge and get it for myself?”

Okay, maybe not?  Well, I did!  That was me this year.  As I stood at the end of an aisle waiting for my daughter to finish her shopping, I started to just look at the items on display.  Those darn end aisles are there to grab your attention anyhow, right?  How shocking, there it was, right in front of me, a miracle.  I happened upon something I’ve been wondering if it would work or not? Imagine that!! The store just knew I’m trying out new ways to take care of my hair and skin.

Seriously though, I’ve often wondered about wrinkles and how to sleep, pillows and in particular pillowcases have an effect on how many we get and how fast we get them.  When I was coloring my hair, it always seemed so frizzy. I often thought my pillowcase played a significant role.  I have this theory our wrinkles and frizzy hair come from sleeping on rough pillowcases.

Wow…low and behold, this product claims to solve the problems I’ve identified in my theory.  How did they know?  Again, I’m a day late and a dollar short of discovering a money-maker!  Oh well, such is life.

To top the sales pitch off, the package even had a FEEL ME spot!  Who can resist the product when you get to feel it before buying? The anticipation of the product really working for me was too much to pass up. After all, I have to test out my theory sometime right? $8.00 was a deal too. Yes, I joyfully tossed the package into my shopping cart.  Of course, I couldn’t wait for Santa’s delivery on Christmas Eve.  Why waste the wrapping paper?  Wrinkle control needs immediate attention.

I have used the pillowcase for two nights now.  What do I think?  A little drummer boy roll please…how did the advertising claim pan out?

  • 1st package claim of “Help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.”  Verdict is…well, no surprise, it didn’t work.  It apparently must take way more than two nights and not having spent years of sleeping on other type of pillow cases to overcome the wrinkle factor.  Duh?!?!
  • 2nd claim of “Reduces friction on face and hair.”  Verdict is…a definite YES!  It has been so nice not having my hair get stuck on the pillow case as I roll over.  The faux silk is really soft and it doesn’t feel too hot either.  Being made of (sorry for anyone who hates this fabric type, remember package does say faux silk) 100% polyester, I really thought it would be hot in temperature to sleep on.  Surprisingly, it wasn’t.  It maintained just the right temperature.  My hair does feel less frizzy upon waking up in the morning.  In comparison, tossing and turning on flannel pillow cases definitely gives my hair a frizz factor.
  • Overall, the pillow protector washed well.  It is tumble dry too.  Easy to take care of!  The fabric is soft and smooth.  Made with nice buttons to hold it on the pillow instead of a zipper, which I like too.  I could be very wrong, but am pretty sure real silk isn’t that easy to take care of?!

Night after night of rough sleep, where you’re fighting with your pillow can’t be a good thing.  Imagine yourself scowling or grimacing as you fight with the pillow and your hair getting in the way. Couldn’t that be a reason for the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles?  Do you smile all night long or all day for that matter?  If you do, great, I’m positive I don’t smile that much.  Where do all the smile lines and wrinkles come from then? Do they come from night after night scowling, grimacing or smashing our faces into the pillows trying to get comfortable?

Now picture yourself, night after night with a calm and peaceful look on your face. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if that type of peaceful sleep does contribute to a smoothness factor in our skin’s appearance? A relaxing night of sleep, not fighting with your pillow case, may just be the ticket for less fine lines and wrinkles.

If this type of pillow case helps do the trick, maybe, just maybe, their 1st package claim could be true too?!  Like the lovely lady pictured on the box, I’m going to keep using it and see if I can help achieve a peaceful and restful look on my face while sleeping!

A lack of restful sleep disrupts the body’s innate balance, weakens our immune system and speeds up the aging process. – Deepak Chopra

Sweet dreams to you!

How about you, what do you think of faux silk or real silk pillow cases?  Have you tried this type of pillow case? Are you lucky enough to have tried the real deal silk pillow case?  I’d love to hear your thoughts!
