Ants and a bee, a surprising photo opportunity

Ah, I love summertime.  It is fun to watch ants crawling around and bees flying from flower to flower.  It’s pretty cool to catch them both in the same spot doing their own thing.  How can they be in the same place but seem like they aren’t even paying attention to each other?  When you see ants or bees in your yard, do you stop to watch them, or do you fly on by too?

When was the last time you wandered around your yard, with camera in hand, and took random pictures and surprised yourself with what you caught on film?

I’m talking about a time where you didn’t set out to take a picture of anything, in particular, you just randomly took shots to see what you could catch in the frame?  Or maybe you happened to stumble upon a bunch of ants and bees and you took a chance to see if you could catch them doing something interesting?

I love to watch bugs!  It is so fun to just get absorbed into watching how they navigate their surroundings.  A fun challenge is to see if you can capture them moving from place to place or from different perspectives while trying out new angles with the camera.

On a different part of the plant above the big bee, I captured some ants climbing around upside down.  But this picture isn’t great.  The bee is a blur, and the ant isn’t that easy to notice.

So I cropped it and now you can really see the ant.

It is fun to find out what I had unintentionally caught in the pictures when I go back into the house.  I love the simple thrill of removing the SD card, plugging it into the computer and seeing what I captured as I review the pictures on the screen.  The shots when I don’t remember paying 100% attention to finding the perfect shot, are often times when I get some of the best shots.

Don’t get me wrong.  I take a lot of really horrible shots too. Like the one below.  There might be a worm on the small branch in the lower right-hand corner, but the rest of the picture is horrible.

But then other times, I get a really cool shot or two.  Like this one, not a great shot, but check out the ant dangling in the upper left-hand corner.  He’s busy doing his own thing, while the bee is busy doing the work bees do.

While the bees and the ants are having their fun, grabbing the camera and wandering around is fun too.  No matter what, it is a relaxing way to spend time in the yard. Better yet is being surprised by the things I may have missed when I was just buzzing on by, too busy to stop and enjoy the scenery.

Go grab your camera, the sun is about to come up!
