The world famous food exchange

Husbands and wives, males and females, humans and birds…doppelgängers alike prepare and exchange meals throughout the world.  In our little section of the world, it is the males that take lead in locating and preparing the food for the females.

As it should be right?

I know that I’m not complaining.  No way, no how.

Mr. is the master chef, and me, the Mrs. will wait patiently for marinades to soak into the steaks before they’re grilled.  If you’re a vegan…just wait, there’s hope below for pictures you’ll enjoy!

Meanwhile, Mr. also chops the veggies and tosses them to perfection.  See vegans, I told you so…

I contribute as I’m able.  This meal I added the perennial chives.  They required little to no work on my part.  I just made them available, and of course, they just grow all on their own with a little help from me by spraying water on them in the garden.  I reminded Mr. they were ready for harvesting.

Aw, check it out, I’m not the only one smiling…

at this meal, he prepared for (me) us featuring Sesame Ginger Miso Cucumber Salad with Marinated Strip Steaks with Gorgonzola Sauce.  Mouth-watering delicious…I’m still drooling remembering how it tasted.  Every single bite was worth the wait.

Oh, how the birds must be envious? They gawk at us through the window, as they enjoy the meals Mr. prepared for them.

In the bird world, the House Finches have taken over the oranges.  The famous Baltimore Orioles must have found something better to eat, or they don’t like the competition?  They haven’t been around lately.  The exchange of nectar craving visitors happens every year.

I’ve heard the red-headed birds be called Purple Finches, and I think we have some around here, but my morning’s visitors are definitely the House Finches.  Here’s the bird Mr. taking off bits of the orange for his feast.  He does a little dance to draw his Mrs. near.

The House Finch Mr. finds the food source sweet, but pauses to see if his Mrs. has followed him, or is it that he’s concerned other couples will invade his chosen space?

Sure enough, it’s a dinner party.  Mr. switches spots and lets his Mrs. eat while he protects the turf from others waiting in line to eat.

The other couple appears to understand the dining room rules.  Mr. waits as the Mrs. eats, and the other birds leave before he finds it safe to take off to eat at the other table.

And there you have it, another successful meal exchange in our little corner of the world!

I didn’t want to misspeak about the bird species, so I checked it out for sure.  I found this link explaining the difference between the House and Purple Finches.  Yep – our visitors are House Finches, no question about it!

Now, how it was that I also found someone who used the word doppelgänger in a blog post (other than all the WordPress bloggers), I’ll never know…for now, let’s just say, I’m speechless…

  1. I have, so far, 3 kinds of chives, 2 kinds of parsley, a multi-coloured sage, oregano and a winter savory. Oh and a mother thyme and rosemary. Missing still: lemon thyme, lemon verbena or balm, a few basils and a summer savory.

  2. Super supper! Your mister sounds like a wonderful cook! Those bird photos are so cute. I had no idea that finches like citrus. We have some of these birds at our feeder. Maybe I should put an orange out there, too! 😉

    1. Thank you, it was a wonderful dinner. Yes, they like the oranges and the nectar from the hummingbird feeders. I’m sure you’d attract them to the oranges if you put some out! 🙂
