A little sprout’s transplanting adventure

I’m just an innocent sprout.  I was rescued from a discarded pot, previously stored in the dark…for a full year…and then she found me.

And replanted me, and I was happy.  No one else in my pot to bug me.  All this space to grow.  Heavenly, don’t ya know?

Each morning I greet the sun, mind my own business, and continue on my quest to establish roots.

Sure there are a few neighbor plants who extend a hello from their pot.  A fat cat or two usually just laying around consuming a nearby chair.

So I’m not alone, I guess.

But today…out of the sky dropped a huge cat.

She plucked me right out of the pot…

and leaped across the great divide…

And dropped me here…

What a mess…I waited patiently to be found and rescued yet again.  It was drafty, so I hid my growing leaves, hoping the cat would leave.

I survived the adventure, with just a few new teeth marks.

And a now I’m back in my pot.  But I have another new home, on a shelf in a different room.  Good thing the human rescued me once again.

Damn cats…they sure can be buggers…!

PS…Has your cat plucked your plants and moved them before?  What the heck is wrong with them?

  1. This post reminds me of a a lady on Instagram I think you would like to follow- @plant_lady_is_the_new_cat_lady Her cats are ALWAYS getting into her plants and it always makes me cringe for the plants. Personally, I don’t have cats at the moment but if I did, I would be having a squirt bottle around to keep them away from my plants! I would make a catnip plant for them that they could get into. That’s amazing that that little sproutling lived for a year in the dark? It looks good and I’m sure it will grow! Have a great Saturday, Shelley, I toast my coffee to you!

    1. Thank you for the recommendations Jennavive! I’m following her now! It is so weird, the cats had left the little plant alone for almost two weeks, then all of a sudden this happened! Yes, the sprout was discarded by my daughter, left in a pot in her basement before she moved, and I saw it in the pot when we were recycling old plastic pots. It was still alive, so I thought I’d give it life again. Hope it survives the darker location in my office! Hope you have a great weekend too! Cheers to you and your adventures!

      1. I would recommend not keeping it so dark now that you have started to take care of it…succulents need a lot of sun. Introduce it little by little each day into sunlight, or you’ll burn some leaves like I did on my jades (I forgot the whole gradually bringing plants into sun thing!) A few hours a day of sun should be good to start and then gradually increase. I have some of my succies in my only Southern window and I have others that I take outside every day. I love following that lady, her cats are hilarious!

        1. That’s great advice…I don’t know much about plants. Hopefully, I’ll find a safe spot with some sunlight for it. The window where I had it was the best spot, but the cats can get there too easily! I can’t wait to see some of her posts!

  2. You had me on the edge of my seat reading this from the cute little sprout’s viewpoint. I have not had cats in a long time, but they did like to torture lizards. My dogs occasionally eat dirt from my plant pots which can be disturbing to the pots’ residents.

    1. Aw, glad you enjoyed it. My cats are getting stranger with age…kind of like me! LOL! Oh, my, never heard of a dog eating potted plants, but my dog is too short to get into them, he’d probably be naughty if he could reach them! Thank you for sharing your thoughts!! Happy Saturday!

  3. When we first moved here, the people we bought the house from had all these silk plants that they left for us. The cats had a field day chewing on the leaves, and after a while we just threw the plants out…

    1. Cats sure can do the strangest things. I’d do the same, toss the silk ones. I used to think they were the only kind of plants I could have. But they grew fur (in the form of dust bunnies) and I couldn’t stand the look! Tossed the lot, after I put a bunch of them in a thrift sale…and someone bought them for a quarter! Happy Saturday, John, thanks for sharing your thoughts!

    1. Aw, thank you! I’m so happy you stopped by to share your thoughts. I’ve been so inspired by your posts about life, and I’m glad my words touched you! xx

  4. I love this post also! My mom’s cat played with the plants I bought once. They even ate the flower!
