A glimpse out of my staycation world

The glow of the sunset draws me out of my world and into a solitary glimpse at how small space here on earth is that I consume.

Across the field, my view of a sunset is damn spectacular.  When I take time to pay attention to it, it is even better.  Like the night I captured below.  The sun setting bounced off the moon, and a tiny star while the sky lit up in beautiful colors.  Moments like that I remind myself that it is sad when I get too busy in life to stop and enjoy the sunsets.

When I am in the zone of admiration, I close my eyes and transport myself to another favorite sunset spot.  My mind wanders to thinking about what it looks like in tropical Jamaica compared to chilly Wisconsin.

Yesterday, I was feeling cabin fever taking over.  I was envious of others who are sharing photos of their vacation destinations on my social media feeds.  Each time I’d restart the feeds a new photo would show up.  Reminded me of how I feel when I’m leaving a favorite vacation destination.

Our staycation started to look a bit dismal.

But when I’m feeling blue, I remember there are always pictures of times where we have traveled and how much fun it is to look back.  From our first trip in 2009 to our last trip in 2015 – we have plenty of warm beach memories under our toes to treasure.

Looking through the eyes of my kid’s photos they captured on our trips to Jamaica, cheered me up.  Even one my husband took of me, not having a clue how to do yoga pose for the first time made me chuckle.

My favorite shots (in the two hours I reviewed photos counting as a mini-staycation!) are the ones I didn’t even know they were taking.  That is what I call fun – seeing a place where you’ve been with someone else, but through the lens of their camera.

Happy March everyone!  Please share – Do you enjoy getting lost in time while looking back at your photos?  What is your favorite vacation spot and why?

  1. Yes! I love looking back at old photos. I have my computer screen saver set to “slide show” so it randomly shows pictures from my photo library. Sometimes I catch my husband at my desk caught up in the memories. So fun!

    1. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. That’s a great idea to use a slideshow for your screensaver. I’d be just like your husband (I’ve caught mine doing the same thing just browsing our photo library for hours) caught in the thrill of memories if I had a slideshow on my computer…but it does sound tempting!

  2. That’s a great feeling going into past and remembering those moments and seeing those old pics. They help us feel those good times which we spent with our loved ones. 🙂

  3. I can see why you made a sad face while leaving the vacation spot. Looks like tropical foliage and warmth outside the patio door.

I’m having a difficult time picking a favorite vacation spot because I have many warm and happy memories from trips to D.C., watching dolphins in the ocean from a beach in Florida, seeing the Rocky Mountains for the first time from the back of a motorcycle, riding my bike on the Elroy-Sparta trail on a beautiful fall day, seeing a bit of debauchery in New Orleans, spending a weekend on Chesapeake Bay, relaxing in front of a campfire for a few days. It’s all good stuff because I experience new things, taste new foods and most of all, RELAX. Isn’t that what vacation is supposed to be? Relaxing?

    1. Yes, it was Jamaica. Oh, my, gosh – your trips all sound wonderful, I’d have a hard time deciding what was best too. RELAXing and all the other fun stuff you listed is exactly what vacations need to be! Thank you for sharing your thoughts!!

  4. Since our recent Florida disaster, I’m looking forward to our finding a new vacation spot for the winter. I think we may try Arizona next year. If we didn’t own a dog, I’d swear I’s be back in the Caribbean. After what we went through in Florida, I am convinced that a tropical (unbuilt) island would work the best for us. Someplace like St. Thomas or St. Croix. My SIL has been going to Barbados for the past 3 years and she loves it. Hubby and I were there once (when it wasn’t so fashionable) and we had a blast!
Vacations, however, are super, super expensive!
So, we might just be content to drive to Arizona and stay in our little RV.
Time will tell.’But I am so looking forward to the new challenge!
(in the interim, we’re in the middle of a nor’easter. UGH! wish us luck!)

    1. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, Cindi! I hear ya on expensive, I’m positive you’ll find the way to enjoy whatever you decide to do. Stay safe!!!

  5. Fantastic content and beautiful photo’s. There is a lake in my city where I love to have a quick daily Staycation! Oak Hollow lake in NC! God has beauty everywhere, and you have alot of #Godart in your pics. 🙂
