The plants need water – gnat removal update

It’s been almost a week since I attempted to rid my office of the pesky little fungus gnats.  As I look at my picture of the tools of the trade, it makes me chuckle.  I don’t know if Stephen Covey would be proud of my new 8th habit of stopping multiple times a day to see how many gnats have relinquished their lives to my death traps?

It has been quite the journey.  I wish I was here to report – SUCCESS.  But, sadly they’re still here.

There went one right now.  Dang, they are still bugging me.  They are relentless, and that means they are laying more eggs in the soil.  Ugh.

And…the worst part is, my plants need water.  I haven’t watered them because the reason I have the darn bugs in the first place is that they congregate on moist soil.  I had kept the soil too moist to help the transplanted plants gain strong roots.

It backfired and now I’m trying to rid the pesky gnats with multiple techniques.

They are slowly dying a cruel death, sad to say.

My original beer glass looking technique was an epic failure.  Maybe if I would’ve put beer in the glasses instead of apple cider vinegar it might have worked?  I only caught two bugs.  So they are off the shelves.

My husband has been extremely supportive by providing ideas, solutions and handy-dandy tools to try.  This tool has been more successful than the beer glass technique.

The technique looks a tad cruel in action.  Yes, sorry to say, I witnessed one of the gnats stuck there trying to free itself until it stopped moving.

My own little Halloween horror film moment.  I frankly don’t know which is worse of me, to squish them with my hands as they fly by or to watch them land on the yellow sticky thing and die slowly.  I’m hoping there is no such thing as bug.lives.matter.

The winning method I prefer so far has been the miniature glass bowls partially filled with apple cider vinegar and dish soap.  I’ve caught plenty with this technique.

But now, I must water the plants so they don’t die too.  I’m afraid to check on my palm tree…spider mites have likely returned since I haven’t watered it.  Apparently, they don’t thrive if the plant is watered properly.  This green thumb stuff is tough.
