Sunrise – Sunset and the time in between

Have you ever obsessed with something until it’s made you an official down-right-just-let-it-go-already-person in your own eyes and the eyes of others when you confess to the obsession?

Been there, done that.  My horizons have changed and I’ve come up with a new strategy for dealing with my front yard sunrise obsession.

‘Sunrise Sunset’ is about trying to get to a place where life is simple and not letting the stress and happenings in the world get in the way of your happiness. – Benny Cassette

Yesterday, as I was waiting patiently for Copper to figure out where he was to plant his little Hershey’s kiss, the sun was shining, and I thought about how much I really do love the view in our backyard.  No matter what time of day it is, there’s something in nature to notice or admire.

The blue sky peaking through the clouds reminded me of how the backyard view changes throughout the day.  I knew right then and there I was ready to accept a new approach – I’m calling it ‘mission sunsets or afternoon delights’ if you will.

While I’ll miss this gorgeous view, I have pictures in my photo albums to look back at when I need to, if I’ll need to, or who knows if I really will or not?  Time will tell.

The new neighbor has cleared more trees.  The lot is ready for the next phase.  When the ground thaws this spring, a house will be built.  I do hope they have kids so we can watch them play in their driveway like we did with our kids.  Or I can watch them wait to catch the bus in the morning.

Keep looking up!  I learn from the past, dream about the future and look up.  There’s nothing like a beautiful sunset to end a healthy day. – Rachel Boston

I’ve replaced my sunrise obsession with my previously subdued admiration for sunsets.  I shall focus on the closing of the day instead of the start of the day for photos.

I’ll grab my camera and capture the golden hour of the day.  And focus on being grateful for all the opportunities, challenges, and experiences of the day.

Sunsets help me focus on beauty, peace, colors, and the surprise visitors in nature.  And, how much there is to love about the four seasons here in Wisconsin.

Do share…are you a sunrise or sunset person?  Which season do you love?  Which photo of the sunset do you connect with the most?

  1. Are you moving? Or are your neighbours building there so you won’t be able to see the sunrise? I am not a morning person, sunsets are my time of day.

    1. Not moving, yes, new neighbors are clearing the lot to build sometime this Spring. I’m more of a morning person, but sunsets are beautiful!

  2. Outstanding photos, as usual.
Someone pointed out the difference between the colors of the sunrise and the sunset on my blog a short while ago. Due to the added particles in the air at sunset, the colors can be brighter and have an added tinge of grey.
As you know, I love them both and will never choose.

    1. Thank you, Donna! I appreciate your kind words and info about the difference between sunset and sunrise colors! I love them both, too, I guess I’ll just have to use it as an excuse to visit places where I can catch new shots!

  3. If I had a view like that, I’d mourn the loss of it! We have a saying in the city: never take an apartment for the view! In my case, I had a lovely little view of rooftops blocked soon after I moved in by a Marriott Hotel. Can we see more photos of the view, before…?

    1. That’s a new saying I’ve not heard before, but I agree with it. I bet there are a few interesting things to see in the windows of the Marriott Hotel?? I’m sure I’ll be sharing more photos soon!!

  4. P.S. I’m a sunrise person. Sometime I’ll write about the most magical sunrise I ever saw, in West Texas. You’ll just have to take your coffee cup and walk to someplace you can still see it. Is that a lake in the distance?

    1. Me too! I look forward to reading about that magical sunrise! Yes, I plan on taking a walk or a drive to find new spots to view the sunrises! No lake, just a big open field and a runway for the neighbor’s airplane :-)! It does flood like a lake when the frost doesn’t thaw quick enough.

  5. I studiously avoid looking into tempting windows as I raise my binoculars to the sky at night to see, around 1 AM, Orion’s Belt, Betelgeuse, Rigel, Sirius, and some others. Finding stars over the city lights is always a thrill.
