Photography – capturing the moon

The M-O-O-N is fascinating and beautiful. One of our family’s favorite sayings is, “I love you to the moon and back.” My daughters even bought me a bracelet with that saying. I wear it every day and think about how much I love them.

Having an empty nest reminds me of another saying, especially when I’m thinking about the kids and missing them. “As long as we’re under the same moon, I’ll feel close to you.” I know they are probably looking at the moon and thinking about home and missing me and my husband just a bit too.

Most of the time, I simply dream quietly about how I’d capture a picture of the moon and a favorite spot to be in when taking the picture. The ocean or over water always sounds like a good idea to me.

Sometimes the spot happens to be right in my own backyard. Whenever the sky is cool, clear and the moon is bright in the sky, I grab my camera and try to get a picture worthy of framing or sharing. Simply to remember how mesmerizing the moment was.

Today’s moon is the Supersized Supermoon. What better chance could I get than having a supersized moon and a clear sky?

Always a dreamer, yes I am. No matter how many attempts (67 this round), changes in the settings on the camera, location, props, sitting, standing, leaning, ISO switches, lens changes, I still came up short with an awesome picture of what I saw when I looked up at the moon through the zoom lens of the camera.

A Supermoon, mixed with a novice photographer, no tripod, and sleepy arms holding the camera, what was captured? A serene moment in time spent dreaming about a perfect picture of the moon and another opportunity to try again someday.

A dreamer is one who can only find her way by moonlight. – Oscar Wilde

We see the same moon, you and I

Did you try to capture a picture of the supermoon? Did you just sit and admire it? Did you dream too?
