Going gray – 11 weeks styling with headbands and clips

img_1948Here I am going into my 11th week of going gray.  I’ve missed what would have been two hair coloring appointments over this time frame.  I do miss seeing my hairdresser.  Not for coloring, but for catching up and seeing how she is doing.  Maybe after the holidays, I’ll schedule a time to go in for a trim.

Speaking of holidays, Thanksgiving Day was a milestone for me in a couple of ways:

  1. It was an empty nest morning for us.  Such a weird feeling getting up early and not having to cook anything or get anyone up to help with meal preparations. Peaceful, but I couldn’t help feeling a little lonely too.  Enjoyed a cup of coffee while taking a sneak peek at the Black Friday sale ads.  I even took a nice leisurely run outside to gear myself up for joining the family for dinner.  A great mental prep for going to dinner with my silver sparkling hair.
  2. It was the first time I hadn’t had my hair colored in preparation for family holiday gatherings and our traditional Black Friday shopping trips.

img_1935Last time I checked in here to update on the progress I was trying to figure out what ways I could style my hair at this stage.  The skunk line is pretty prominent now.  I’ve been playing around with headbands and clips.  Both techniques pull my bangs and hair back from my face, doing an excellent job of exposing the gray around my face.  If I do the poof of bangs right I can cover the skunk line on top of my head with the dark curls.  Well, maybe not so well after all?  This stage definitely remains a work in progress.

It’s doable, but becoming very noticeable.

Like I didn’t think that would happen?  Jeez!  So far, my family and people I’ve run into at the stores have noticed but not said anything. I wonder what another month will bring?  Christmas is just around the corner, I may just look a bit more like Mrs. Claus by that time!

What are your suggestions for hair styling tips at this stage?  Leave me a comment below, I’d love to hear from you!
