2 Liebster Award nominations in one day…oh, my!

I’d love to walk quietly into the office of every new blogger, creep up behind them at their computer, (while they are all engrossed in writing their masterpiece), tap them on the shoulder, (scaring the shit out of them ‘cuz that’s what creepers do), and then ask…”Are you dreaming about becoming nominated for the Liebster Award?”

I can’t believe anyone would say, “Heck no!”  You’re lying if you deny it…doesn’t everyone like to be nominated for an award?  Go ahead, just admit it!

If you’re new blogging and to the Liebster Award, (like me), and had no idea what it was, you’d still say, “Heck yeah, I’ll accept the award nomination.”  An award nomination is a pretty cool thing to receive!

When I first saw the award nomination on someone else’s blog last year, I sighed to myself, “Someday…maybe…oh well, just keep on writing, you’re not even close to award status.”  I liked their nomination post and I congratulated the blogger for their success. After creeping a bit on their page, I left their page.  Being nice and kind always comes back to you.

We, bloggers, write because we want to carve out our own little niche in the HUGE world of blogging.  We show up.  Every day.  We’ve got that going for us, we show up, that’s what counts.

There are only two ways to live your life.  One is as though nothing is a miracle.  The other is as though everything is a miracle. – Albert Einstein

This week, out of the blue, I was shocked by being noticed and nominated for the award.  TWICE.  Holy crap…I seriously wanted to cry.  I’m just this little old blogger (…in my 50’s trying to learn the ropes of blogging) and I think it is a miracle I was ‘noticed’ for writing something interesting enough for someone to read it, let alone nominated for an award.

Vivian to Kit: “We think you got a lot of potential Kit De Luca, don’t let anybody tell you any different.” – Pretty Woman

I’m beyond excited, and so incredibly grateful to the two bloggers who nominated me.  Thank you, thank you, I hope I don’t disappoint you in my responses to your questions!

What is the Liebster Award?

It’s an award in which bloggers nominate other bloggers by showing respect to their work and their dedication. It’s an appreciation and recognition for all the fellow bloggers out there in the blogosphere.  Read the full rules here.

Rules for Accepting the Liebster Award:

  1. Display the award on your blog.
  2. Acknowledge the blogger who nominated you, including a link to their blog.
  3. Answer their questions.
  4. Nominate 5-11 other bloggers you feel would enjoy blogging about this award.
  5. Ask them 11 questions.
  6. Let them know you have nominated them.
  7. List these rules in your post (or link to the official post.)
  8. Post a comment here to let the powers-that-be know you’ve been nominated.

#1 nomination came from Donna at No-Madder Nomadder.   Take time to check out her blog – it is full of love, joy, whimsy, and discovery.

Donna’s 11 questions for me to answer:

  1. What brought you to WordPress?  I read a “you can create a blog in 10 minutes post” followed the instructions which suggested to use WordPress and a year later, here I am!
  2. What is your favorite color and why?  Sky blue – it is dreamy, it reminds me of infinity, and I love it so much I painted our front door the same color.  It’s quirky too!
  3. Where is your favorite place you have traveled?  Negril, Jamaica.  do you have a picture?  Yes, in fact, I just wrote a blog post about it yesterday – right here.
  4. What is your earth sign?  Sagittarius
  5. Who is your favorite poet?  Percy Bysshe Shelley
  6. What do you do for fun?  Learn new things – especially fond of photography and blogging.
  7. Pink Floyd or Twenty One Pilots?  Pink Floyd
  8. Can you live without your social media for 7 days?  Yes, if I’m in Jamaica on vacation.
  9. Are you happy?  Yes, is there any other way to live?
  10. Where are you going?  Places I’ve not yet discovered, and back to our home where everything matters the most to me.
  11. What is one thing you wish you could change?  I’d wish the onset of dementia never happened.

#2 nomination was nominated by Jane at Planet-Dom – Take time to check out her blog – she was a Spice Girl for 12 years, and, her site is full of adventures with Dom and Autism, and so much more.

Jane’s questions for me were:

  1. What is your favorite comedy sketch?  Bob Nelson Hillarious Football Routine
  2. What is your favorite quote?  Oh, my, that’s tough…I love quotes.  As a proud parent, I’d say, this quote is one of my favorites:  “The greatest gifts you can give your children are the roots of responsibility and the wings of independence.” – Denis Waitley
  3. Describe yourself in five words:  Learner, Deliberative, Dreamer, Responsible, Quirky
  4. What is the scariest/most extreme thing you’ve ever done?  Public speaking, and writing a blog.
  5. What wrongs would you put right if you were invisible for the day?  All the mean words I’ve said to people, especially those dear to me.
  6. Town or country?  Country – but I love to visit towns – Chicago is one of my favorite places to visit.
  7. What’s on your bucket list?  Continue learning new things until the day I die.
  8. What is your biggest achievement?  My (our) daughters and a strong marriage.
  9. If you were able to travel anywhere in the world, how would you spend your perfect day?  A place I haven’t thought of to visit yet, with my family by my side, my camera in hand and probably an interpreter.
  10. What would your dream job be?  Oh, my gosh, this is one of my boss’s favorite interview questions – I (we) ask it all the time, and I never have a perfect answer if I’d ask myself.  Lately, though, I think my answer would be an author or a world traveler.
  11. What is the most embarrassing thing you’ve ever done?  It has always involved a leaky bladder of sorts…

  1. Thank you, I appreciate your kind words, Shelley.
I love your questions! They are great fun and as they should be, intriguing. These awards are a wonderful tool for us new bloggers. I am glad to see you were entertained by the whole experience and congratulations on being nominated, twice!
    Thank you, again,
    Donna

    1. You’re welcome! It was fun, and I agree, it is nice to help new bloggers get out into the world! I appreciate your encouragement! Congrats to you, too!!

  2. TWO Liebster Awards? Two?? Pretty damn selfish if you ask me. But I guess that’s just the Wealth Gap world we live in these days. Some get everything, the others get children. Still: CONGRATS! It’s really no surprise though. Your writing is superb and deserving of every accolade it gets. Including this one 🙂

Thank you thank you thank you for nominating me for my own little slice of the award pie! I’m flattered beyond words, really. (But don’t tell my wife please. She’ll tell me I couldn’t have done it without her as a muse, and she’s insufferable enough already as it is. Thanks.)

Woo hoo, I’m gonna parlay this newfound fame into money! Social standing! Chicks!

Or maybe just a stupid smile on my mug for the rest of the day. That’s good too.

    Thanks again!

    🙂

    1. LOL! You’re welcome, somehow, I thought you and NewWifey would have fun with this challenge! I look forward to reading how you’ve quoted her a few times in your acceptance post. Enjoy the fame and glory (you and your writing deserve it by the way!!) – go ahead gloat a bit, too, if you dare! 😉

      1. Oooooooooooh, that’s something that does not require a dare to accomplish. I’m a radio personality, remember? Gloating, deservedly or not, is practically a job requirement. I am SO there.

Er…on thing I hope does not cause you consternation, though. I’ve been nominated for various awards a number of times now, but turned them all down. Partly it’s because I never feel I deserve an award for the silly ramblings I just toss up like written word salads sometimes. Partly because I want to keep my blog a sanctuary where I can write silly word salads without feeling pressured to do things like answer random questions. But mostly because….I can’t figure out how to add things like award stickers on my blog. And I don’t like how it would look if I could. (I also don’t know 5 – 11 bloggers who would believe me if I nominated them, although I suppose that could be rectified by mailing them a 5-er or something.)

Anyway, the point is, please don’t take it amiss if you don’t see me follow through on this – it’s not you, it’s….my wife. I blame her.

        1. Nooooooooooooooooooo…you’re letting another female down??? No worries mon, I get it and completely understand. I shall always wonder what your answers may have been. I’ll be fine, really, I will, especially now that I know you’re a “no sidebar” kinda blogger. 😉 Go on now and mix up a salad with NewWifey! (PS…I didn’t know you were a famous radio personality…!) (PSS…just one question answered to my questions would be a nice rambling to read…you can choose…!)

          1. See, this is why I don’t participate in 3-somes. It’s just too stressful disappointing more than one woman at a time.

Er, speaking of such…were you confusing “mix up” with “toss”? I’m willing to do either, so just let me know.

Yep, famous radio personage. Although “famous” is relative. Regardless, I’ve been on the air for almost 25 years now, and have the social opprobrium to prove it!

Just one question, huh? Let’s see then. My answer to #1: Left ball and right ball. They’re small, precious to me, and would be easy to grab in a hurry as NewWifey(tm) keeps them in a jar right on her bedstand.

            🙂

          2. LOL! Thanks for tossing a ball or two at the game! Don’t tell NewWifey(TM) that you wouldn’t grab her as one of the 2 things!?! Congrats on the longevity of your radio career. You’re obviously gifted at storytelling…I stopped reading the ‘about me’ after you confessed to be a murderer…now I see the radio part – duh, it’s all coming together now!! Lesson learned from not being more thorough! You’re free to answer more questions when your meat pie is all gone! 😉

          3. I wouldn’t grab NewWifey(tm) because it’s almost implicit that she is the one who started the fire in the first place, and by the time I got around to fleeing the premises she’d be 4 and a half states away already.

Thanks for the congrats, but my longevity is more due to “nobody else wants to get up at 3am to do your stupid shift” than any inherent talent. But I appreciate you implying otherwise 🙂

*whew* Glad you don’t think I’m a murderer any more. That’ll make the next hit easier to get away with…..

            MORE MEAT PIE!!!

            🙂

          4. Oh, yeah, right…she’s more athletic – I’ve read your posts saying so! Sounds like pretty awesome job security ;-)! I’ll watch my back now that I know the hits will keep on coming. Enjoy the pie – the pictures made it appealing no doubt – in your spare time, submit them to Food & Wine magazine, you might just be on to a career move………

  3. Congrats Shelley! I’m so happy for you. Thank you for nominating me and I’m going to post my soon. I was also nominated twice 😊

  4. Double congrats Shelley! What an achievement! I’ve enjoyed reading your answers, it’s been great getting to know you a bit better! What can I say…I’m stuck for words…and that must be a first!!! and I’m blown away by your nomination! Best wishes and…Onwards and outwards!!
